Half Moon Bay Beach House

Does anyone know if this would be a good place to stay in July?

Half Moon Bay is in California. The town is along the coast, inland from San Mateo, between Santa Cruz and San Francisco. In my opinion, no this would not be a good place to stay in July. It's often, often foggy there, and can be quite chilly. Today the forecast is for 93 in San Jose but only 65 in Half Moon Bay. There is a cute town there, and some good restaurants, though, so if you don't mind fog this might be the place for you.

The best place in HMB is Seal Cove Inn which is owned by Karen Brown, the travel writer. I really like the little town and now a new Ritz Carlton has opened just out of town. The fog usually burns off by 11 am and right now, sitting in the heat of Palo Alto, 65 at Half Moon Bay sounds like heaven! We're having a very hot summer so far in Northern California. You won't be able to swim, but other than that, it's a nice place for a couple days. Sorry don't know that particular place.

I don't know about staying there in July in particular, but we stopped by there to look and thought it looked very nice, even inquired into staying there for one night, but they were sold out and very expensive for us anyway. There was a pool or hot tub or both with an oceanview, would imagine the pool to be heated. Would love to have stayed there.

Seal Cove Inn which is where we stayed is actually in Moss Beach, a few miles north of Half Moon Bay. It's a lovely B&B with a great location, within walking distance to the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, ocean, Cypress Grove.

If I were to go there again, I would personally pick the Seal Cove Inn again for one reason because it is off the beaten path, nestled in gardens and woods. The Beach House is literally next to the highway.

My husband and I stayed in Half Moon Bay last fall after visiting Napa. We couldn't get reservations for the weekend in Napa and didn't want to venture far from the airport in San Francisco. It's a wonderful little community. Seal Cove was our first choice, but of course was full months in advance. We ended up at Half Moon Bay Lodge and were pleasantly surprised. For a motel-type establishment, it was very nice. Large, elegantly decorated rooms with a fireplace, overlooking the golf course. Breakfast was included--it was nothing special, but very adequate. There is an outdoor fireplace and a nice pool/spa. The staff was very helpful. Since there is not a lot there, we were forced to stay in and relax--not something we're used to, but could grow to like it!
