Groceries, beer/wine/liquor near SLC int'l airport?
Hi everyone,
My DH & I are arriving at Salt Lake City Int'l airport at noon on Sat., 4/23. We are heading directly to Torrey/Capitol Reef, but we need to get groceries first.
Can anybody tell me the names & approximate locations of decent sized grocery stores that would be near the airport or along the highway heading south? Also, need to know about buying beer, wine & liquor (I know every state is different, & I've heard that Utah is especially different! lol!)
I'm sure that we would be passing by a lot of commercial areas, but it has been my experience that unless you know where you are going, its real easy to blow right past it (like an exit) thanks!

Hi, erika_s:
Common grocery chains in Utah are Smith's, Harmon's, and Albertson's.
An easy one to access from the freeway would be Smith's at exit #303 from I-15. It is adjacent to the freeway on the west side. It is about 12 miles south of the airport in the direction you'll be heading anyway.
You can purchase beer in grocery stores, although wine and liquor must be bought at a state liquor store. If you continue west on 5300 South, it will become 5400 South. You'll find a state liquor store at 3905 West 5400 South. Backtrack east to I-15 from there.

Hi Presocia-
Thanks a gagillion for the directions & info! Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I was stuck doing taxes...
Having an exit number & such specific directions will help a lot witht the anxiety/hassle factor of getting the goods & getting on the road. Thanks again!

I hope this will be helpful! The area immediately surrounding the airport is either industrial or the Great Salt Lake. Downtown is not far, but can be confusing and is unnecessry to navigate for your purposes. Of course, another option would be to locate a liquor store once you are at your final destination for the day. Enjoy your trip!

hahaha! Final destination is Torrey. Nuthin' there but dust! No for me! I leave this Friday afternoon, so this may be my last visit to this site - thanks again for your help! You've helped me avoid a potential headache for sure!

Presocia's advice is not good advice - there are much easier, quicker options. 3905 West is a long long way from I-15.
You'd be much better off stopping in Sandy at the liquor store - 125 West 9000 South - Exit 298, then head South on State Street to the Super Target, get everything you need and hop right back on the freeway at 106th South.
You can go to www.mapquest.com and print out a map.
