Great summer biking vacation

If you had a week this summer to take a great biking trip, where would you go?

As you've posted on USA thread then I suppose thats where you want ideas for. However I have been looking into cycling the danube river trail which looks pretty cool. Also in europe there are good cycle routes in Austria nad switzerland.

I'm signed up for this year's Cycle Oregon, a week long trip covering about 500 miles. This year's route is a central Oregon loop, extending as far south as Crater Lake. Promises to be a very scenic, though maybe a little hilly, ride.

I'll also be spending a week in the San Juan islands this summer, taking my bike along, since I know several people who've enjoyed cycling adventures there.

I am way too lazy and hillaverse to consider a challenge like beachbum's but agree 100% about the San Juan's. If you are an off road cyclist, who prefers the flat trails look at the New River Trail, Galax, VA, le Petit Tren, near Montreal, Canada, Katy Trail, Missouri, and the Confederation Trail in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

I'm a mountain biker, so (if I were a bit younger) I would go to Colorado for one of the hut-to-hut trails. We biked portions of the The Tenth Mountain Trail 10 years ago, and it was glorious.

I think the San Juan trail system migh tbe a little less strenuous that the 10th Mtn.

The last connection of the Great Allegheny Passage to the C&O Canal towpath trail was completed late last year. The route is an almost flat 316-mile rail trail from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. I can't compare it to any other biking trip, but I thought you might like to look into it.
