Great Hotels away from riverwalk

We stayed at the Westin La Cantera Resort--near the intersection of Loop 1604 and I-10, right next to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It's a beautiful place, and it has a series of six or seven small pools.
I think a standard room there goes for $150-$200/night. We used Priceline to bid on a 3* in the Northwest zone and got it for just $50/night.
(BiddingForTravel.com shows this hotel and the Omni coming up on Priceline for 3* hotels in this zone. So we weren't sure we'd get the La Cantera when we bid. I think the Omni has more of a standard hotel pool. So if you wanted La Cantera and wanted to try to save money by using Priceline in this zone, be forewarned that you could end up in the Omni instead.)
Here's a link to the La Cantera Web site, which includes a photo of part of the pool area:

Hope this helps!

I might add that, via Priceline, lots of people on BiddingForTravel.com report getting the Hyatt Hill Country Resort for prices in the $40-$60/night range by bidding for a Resort hotel in the West zone of San Antonio. (Prices are over $200/night if you book via the hotel website for the sample dates I checked.) It appears to have a pretty cool pool setup, too--appears to resemble a river. Check it out at the Hyatt site.
The reviews of the Omni (also on BiddingForTravel) indicate that it's got both indoor and outdoor pools, and all three reviewers gave the hotel high marks. So maybe it's not such a risk to bid for a 3* in the Northwest zone.
Anyway, hope this helps (again).

There's a Holiday Inn Express within walking distance that was very nice, convenient and had a GREAT continental breakfast, much nicer than the standard HI Exp. freebie. At the time, it included breakfast burritos that appeared to be homemade and were really good.

We were to San Antonio for Fiesta and wound up getting the Woodbridge Suites for around $79 per night. Wonderful breakfast each morning, plus free cocktails from 5-7 (Name Brands) and a huge room with micro-fridge, actually almost 2 rooms with a sitting area. It is only 2 yrs. old. Nice small pool area, nothing fancy, but never seen anyone there. Quiet. Get trolley right next door at Marriott to Riverwalk and anywhere in SA. Mexican Mkt. within walking distance, also K Mart.
