well, we have not paid anything yet because we are not leaving until September (we did pay $749 for the hotel, but nothing for the car). The tax of $40 is what Avis person told me would pay in September.
So, yes - it is an excellent deal, but you must call Westin to get the code, then book with Avis. If you book on your own, you won't be able to use the Avis certificate you get from the Westin.
When are you going?

Thank YOU! Without your post, we would not have been able to get this deal. I know you are going in August, would you mind posting how everything went when you get back? I hope we won't have any problems with this deal.

giuletta, sorry i didnt have time for a trip report, my trip was just way too long and i dont know if i'll have the time to update here. anyway...
the westin deal went SMOOTHLY. the resort was awesome, i really loved it despite the parking lot view we got, but still, the room was big, we had complimentary water (well, not complimentary since it's part of the resort fee), and we used the $100 resort certificate for a breakfast buffet at the Ono Restaurant on site, it was DELICIOUS and well worth it, especially since we didn't have to pay for it. haha. car rental was great with Avis, we just paid the $40 tax. anyway, the deal is legit, it's great, i hope they have it again next year as i want to go to Maui again. I'm hooked.

we just got back too, and the Westin deal could not have been better. We got a complimentary upgrade to FULL OCEAN VIEW!!! The room was large and clean, and the view was unbelievable. We used the $100 resort certificate to pay for 5 days of resort fee. The parking lot was full every day so we got free valet parking. The resort was incredible. And we did not have to go to a time share presentation!!!
Do you think it might be worth calling them to find out about their deals for next year? I read that you can only do this once a year, so if we do it again, it will have to be after September 12, 2006. Overall, kalunchi, I cannot thank you enough for posting info about this deal!!!

We just got back from the Westin Maui using the promotion #2. It was $749 for 6 days/5 nights in a small room overlooking the parking lot. For $100/night upgrade, we got a large room with big bathroom, full closet and ocean view.
The great part was we were able to use gift vouchers (that come with this package) valued at $75, but worth double towards room upgrade. Then, we went to a timeshare presentation about 2 hrs long, and got another $100 (and doubled it towards room upgrade). This gave us $350.00 credit total towards our room upgrade. It was well worth it, because we traveled with our two kids, aged 9 and 10 and needed all the space we could get out of one room.
We loved the Westin Maui and would gladly stay there again. It's very family oriented. I don't mean this to sound like there's kids running amok all over the place. If you have children, you will feel very at home here. The resort is clean and beautiful. The pools are lovely and very kid friendly. The staff are also helpful and nice. In the past we've stayed at the Kea Lani in Wailea, and although we loved it there, there does seem to be more of an air of romance and "adult only" atmosphere. We visited the Kea Lani just to see what it was like 13 years later, and it's still beautiful. We noticed, though, that there isn't enough pool for all the guests...lawn chairs were crammed side by side everywhere. We never felt crowded at the Westin Maui.
We tagged on a short visit to Oahu and stayed at the Royal Hawaiian. Be sure to get at least a garden room if you stay there...we saw some rooms that faced other buildings/stair cases, parking lot. Our room faced the coconut grove---absolutely beautiful.
All in all, it was a fantastic trip...if I could change anything, it would be that the beach was clean and not sewage contaminated (I'm speaking of the sewage spill into the Ali Wai Canal in Honolulu last week that polluted Waikiki Beach--it's still not safe to swim there, last I heard. The sand is now dirty).
Aloha!

The Westin deal is still good. Just made my reservation (also did it several years ago). I think this is one of the best deals out there, especially if you have enough frequent flier miles for a round trip to Maui. $749 for 6 days/5 nights, $185 for an Avis Car Rental and a resort certificate worth $75. You can double-up your trip if the other person you're going with makes a reservation for the same offer, but just tacks it on the end of your reservation.
$1,498 for 11 days/10 nights (and if you use your frequent flier miles, you've got a hell of a deal here) !

I just called the number and asked about the Westin Maui promotion. I indicated that I was interested in vacation timeshare information and got the information from the Starwood vacation website http://www.starwoodvacationownership.com/index.jsp
Click on "Request Information" and just fill out the information, submit it and call them.
I told them I was interested in the Westin Maui special for $749. They then informed me about the two specials (1 for the Sheraton Kauai $649 6 days/5 nights) & (1 for the Westin Maui $749 6 days/5 nights).

FYI, I did call and mention that I was interested in promo #2. They were able to offer me #1 (which I am mulling over). They said they could not offer me #2 since I was in California. Not sure if that is true or not, but that's the scoop I got.
Thanks to the OP for posting this.
