Grand Canyon in April ? suggestions

Our family with three kids 14,12,10 are flying into LasVegas, rent car and self guiding tour of the Canyon with a few key stops along the way. From reading your comments i came up with this... but the hotels appear to be filled in South Rim until end of our week so my plans were as follows:
Day 1 arrive am Vegas 1 night see HooverDam Lake Mead...a show?
Day 2-3 drive to Zion NP, hike, onto Bryce Canyon NP stay 2-nites
Day 4-5 drive to Page Az. 2-nites where?
Day 6 Grand Canyon NP 1 nite if open?
Day 7 Sedona / Williams area. 1 nite
Day 8 Return to Vegas and home.

Any suggestions for amount of time each place. We really want to relax, enjoy and hike, not drive too much. Thanks for help.

I haven't been to Bryce in April, but from what I've read the trails are still closed because of snow. I think I would spend two nights in Zion (or Springdale, UT) and make a day trip to Bryce or spend one night at each park.

Do you plan on doing a float trip on the Colorado River or all day boat tour on Lake Powell? If so, then you need the 2 nights, but if you don't plan to do any of these activities then one night will be plenty.

Have you tried getting lodging in Tusayan, AZ? It's only 10 fast miles from the Grand Canyon village.

BTW, Bryce will be a lot colder than Zion.

Ok, change in plans, forget spring break we've postponed until July and flying into Phoenix.

2 nights in Sedona to hike. Is the Bell Rock Inn with Pool and clean, other idea? Followed by 2 nights in GC at Yavapai Lodge already booked.

Then driving Monday to North Rim and stay a few days to hike. Based on what i'm hearing driving to Zion and Bryce Canyon is a must before returning towards Page and river float. lodging and must stops on this leg?

We must return to Phoenix by Friday evening from Page for a Sat am. departure.

I don't have a sense if this is to rushed or not. This site has been a great help as we're trying to keep this enjoyable but not too slow paced with kids.

Skip the North Rim and do Zion & Bryce instead. Zion and Bryce both are so different from each other and the Grand Canyon, so you will want to see all three.
