Grand Canyon hotel
We will be staying 3 nights at the GC in mid April and have only been able to find availability at either the Best Western GC Squire Inn or the Maswik Lodge in the park? Children are 8-12 years old. Any suggestions? Thank you.

If by suggestions, you mean reviews of either place, I can recommend the Maswik. It is not fancy but the rooms are good size, the cafeteria has something for everyone (albeit not gourmet or anything even close), and the proximity to the rim can't be beat.
It is a very basic property but we found it to be clean and convenient and there was a message on our machine when we returned home informing us of some items we forgot--they were confirming our mailing address and we received the items in a couple of days.
I don't know anything about the BW in Tusayan as we decided we wanted to be in the park.
Either way, Enjoy!

just me but I`d keep trying(someone always cancels) until I left to get a rim hotel..but would stay in the park and and not Tusayan(there is nothing wrong w/the BW.just like the park atmosp..)..nothing like it..ranger programs and sunset- sunrise..and not having to drive back out of the park...

Maswik is so close to the rim, I wouldn't look for anything else! It's a very short fun walk to the rim, I remember in the morning I walked, and on the way saw ravens, coyotes, deers - all in the wild! And Maswik has a free shuttle stop to help you get around if you don't want to drive.

Hi
when we were planning our visit to Grand Canyon I called often to see if anyone had cancelled their reservations. I tried to get my calls in when reservations would open in the morning and, sure enough, we were able to get a room in El Tovar. It really just took some perseverence (and a bigger phone bill) but we got what we were hoping for.
Most all of the accommodations offered by the Park Service were fine and if you can get a room within the park you'd probably be pleased.
