Do you want to eat seafood, steak, or some other kind of food? Do you want a view of the water? Do you want casual or dressy? Is cost a consideration?

Hi - we like seafood, and a view of the water WOULD be nice... Cost is really not a consideration because it's a special evening. But we would just like a romantic place with wonderful food and great service. Got any place in mind? Thanks for your help!

Most of the water views are from less intimate restaurants generally speaking. I wish Fodors indexing was up to date because there was one great new recommendation recently that I can't remember for the life of me.

Anthony's on the Pier has a great view, as does Cutters. Etta's Seafood a peak-a-boo one. Campagne and Cafe Campagne are both lovely but a bit futher up from the water in Pike Place Market. Matt's at the Market, Chez Shea, Maximilliens are others nearby.

Rovers on Madison might be another to consider. Or Cafe Juanita or the Herbfarm if you want to drive outside the city.

Maybe Mistral ? (but this is a truly money is no object foodie kind of place and has no view, it's teeny, intimate)

I suggest the Waterfront. Ask for a table "well into the dining room--away from the exhibition kitchen and reception desk." You will be pleased.

Canlis is another good option if they don't seat you next to the cash register or service area.

The restaurant at the Edgewater Hotel has a spectacular water view, but I can't vouch for the food or for cloths on the tables.

You can't go wrong at Salty's on Alki -- in West Seattle. You get the nice restaurant with the BEST view of the Seattle Skyline from the other side of Elliott Bay.
