Good Restaurant by Honolulu, HI Airport
Our family will be traveling back to the mainland from Maui with a long layover in Honolulu from 4 pm to 11 pm on a Tuesday in November. We are looking for ideas of things to do or a good restaurant to go to, via taxi, to kill the time before the flight home. Ideas? Thanks.

A taxi to downtown would be a lot cheaper than one to Waikiki. Indigo is nice. http://www.indigo-hawaii.com/
Also Little Village is a good Chinese restaurant in downtown.

Or you could go just a bit farther to Ward Warehouse or Ward Center where there are several great places to eat, and shopping if you desire. Further still is Ala Moana Center, and then another mile or so and you're in Waikiki.
There will be traffic at 4, but by 8:30- 9 PM it should be quick to get back to the airport. 15 minutes from downtown, and I'd allow (at the very least) 35 minutes from Waikiki.

I like the idea of heading to one of the shopping areas, as mentioned above, Ward Center/Warehouse or Ala Moana. There you'd get a choice of restauants plus the 'entertainment' of shopping if you have extra time.
At Ala Moana there's a great food court at the lower level with all kinds of choices (I like Lahaina Chicken). Also a beautiful beach & park right across the street if you have extra timem & didn't want to shop. Hey how about food to go & have a picnic?
Even allowing a generous amount of time to: get out of the airport, taxi ride both directions, and check in early for your onward flight, seem like you'd have ~4 hours to spend somewhere.
