Good overnight to take husband for bday in New England

My husband's birthday is in June (he'll be 33), and I want to plan an overnight somewhere we have never been or if it is somewhere we have been, I want to have something new to do there. We've been to North Conway a bunch of times. I was thinking maybe Rhode Island, Vermont, or a different part of New Hampshire...something where we can go out for lunch or dinner somewhere somewhat nice, and sightsee or do something adventurous, but not too adventurous - (like zip lining - we've already done that). Any suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks!

Newport should fit. No real adventure, but the cliff walk is nice.

Newport: Actually if you walk the whole cliff walk it can be adventurous. You could also fly a kite at Brenton State Park, or charter a boat or go out on a schooner, or visit a Vineyard.

Southern Maine - Kennebunkport/Ogunquit. Walk the beach and the Marginal Way, rent a kayak and check out the rivers or go out on the Silver Lining Hinkley sail boat or one of the lobster boats in Perkins Cove. Stroll Rachel Carson and Wells Reserve.

Stowe Vermont - biking, rollarblading, hiking, horsebackriding....

What area are you traveling from?

If you want an upscale hotel, look at the Watch Hill Hotel in Watch Hill, RI. Beautiful property if a little pricey.

Are you talking about the Ocean House emalloy? It has a very interesting history in regards to its current replica vs renovation to preserve the architecture of a great old dame. I loved the original, and look forward to visiting the replica.

emalloy, I admire your idea of "a little pricey."

The same people who rebuilt the Ocean House have also refurbished the Weekapaug Inn, to an equally high standard.

Luckily, I have my own house in the area.

Yes, I did mean the Ocean House, and my experience there was having lunch on the veranda last summer. We did explore the grounds and the public areas and had a drink on the terrace, but I would spend about the same for a week that one of the units costs per night, so Isn't that a little pricey?

oh how I wished you had seen the original emalloy, with its crooked floors and rustic sea worn charm! I likely won't stay either, but look forward to a cup of tea or a cocktail and a stroll.

Well, I'd say a lot pricey -- but I think we're on the same page -- very expensive!

The old Ocean House was a charmer. I think they did a very good job recreating it.

But a nice place to visit for a lunch or cocktail and explore Stoneham and Mystic CT.

I did see the old one and watched the new one being built. The lunch was very nice and not terribly expensive. The views are wonderful. We were not allowed down to the beach, since we didn't have a room key, but could see the nice cabanas and a little of the sand. It would not be a place for someone with mobility issues as the hotel is quite a bit higher than the shore, but there is a lap pool near the terrace.
