I would recommend the Sheraton Crossroads hotel in Park Ridge, NJ. It is right on the border of NJ and NY. Very nice, easy to get to and puts you about 1/2 hr from NYC. If you are looking for a nice hotel closer to PA try the Tara in Parsippany, NJ...I think Sheraon owns it as well.

Well, since I'm writing this message from the Crossroads (it has offices too), live right next to Parsippany in Denville, and grew up in PA, perhaps I'm ideally suited for the question.
The Crossroads does swimming pool and a nightclub. You can sure get high up to have a view, but personally I don't know that there's that much to look at. (mostly Rte 17/287 and the Sharp Plaza next door) The Tara is a Sheraton and is a very nice hotel similar to the Crossroads, nightclub too, and I think you would be better to go there if you wante tennis. You might also consider the Embassy Suites in Parsiappny as well, really nice open space hotel inside - gorgeous pool.
But it depends on what you're after. All of those places are in pretty concrete type areas. If you want to get lost in the hotel and not go out, that could be just the ticket. If you want to go out to the country you might want to consider the Pocono region, or upstate NY. I seem to remember an inn in the area of Rhinecliff that had a nice view but don't remember the name. It would be quieter, no nightclub and no tennis that I know of. Visit the Rockafeller/Vanderbilt mansions up there and I love the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome bi-planes.
I never liked the inside too much, but a place with great grounds, golf, tennis, nightclub, etc. in the Poconos is Mt. Airy Lodge. Look into Split Rock Lodge in that area as well.

I live in the Pocono Mts. of Pa. and can say that the best Resort Hotels here are the ones owned by Ceasars Resorts. They are "Brookdale on the Lake" "Paradise Stream Resort" and "Cove Haven". There may be one more on RT. 209. I the other resorts including Mt Airy and its affiliates, Pocono Gardens, Stricklands, are in disrepair. We do not have any real Mountains here, just hills, so a view is limited. If your budget does not allow for these resorts try a small one called Chestnut Grove in Swiftwater Pa. It's plain and simple but nice and centrally located. I would advise against any travel on RT. 209 north of Marshalls Creek as this gets very congested. Good Luck.

there is a lovely mountain resort in western pa.approx.1 hr.from pittsburgh called seven springs mountain resort.the scenery is beautiful.golf, skiing, biking are also available.octoberfest is great with outdoor barbeques, crafts, and other activities.there are several lounges including one that has nightly shows with dancing.the oak room in the main lodge has a terrific seafood buffet friday night and a grand buffet saturday night.breakfast buffets are also served in the oak room which are complimentary to hotel guests.there is a wonderful restaurant in the original resort chalet called helen's.the accent is on french food.the food is excellent and the atmosphere even better.try a house coffee after dinner.the service at the entire resort is very good and friendly.make your reservations well in advance during the fall and winter seasons.they do have a web site:www.7springs.com.hope this helps.
