good hotel in Bermuda?

We may spend our 25th in Bermuda. Can you recommend a good hotel and what would the conditions be like in early August? What is there to do there? Thanks, Annemarie

Well it depends on what you want. Do you want a big hotel or a small hotel? IS being on a beach essential? Do you want to be in Hamilton? Cambridge Beaches? What is your price range?
In the really nice, not on a beach, but with beach access through the Coral Beach Club is Horizon & Cottages in Paget. It isn't cheap, but they have both cottages and lovely rooms in the main house. The last time I was there [many moooooons ago, alas] the managers were a young couple who would join in guest-organized games such as Charades.
H&C are in a group with some other nice small and elegant properties.
On the other hand if you want a lot of "action" you might aim for one of the bigger hotels in Hamilton and/or the south shore. Cambridge Beaches has a good reputation. I've only eaten there though.
Sorry if this posts twice... the ghost is in the machine again!

Horizons and Cottages is quite nice- it is a member of Relais and Chateaux as is Waterloo House(which is in Hamilton - not on the beach)-for a big, but luxurious hotel the South Hampton Princess is a good choice- for a more old world feel the Hamilton Princess is the "Grande Dame" of Bermuda's hotels. Cambridge Beaches is smaller but very nice- perhaps the romantic setting you're after. Weather should be fine in August- warm but tolerable. For activities you might explore the island by moped. There is also a place where you can rent a small motorboat and tool around the bay and there are a couple of places that give horseback rides through trails and along the shore-that was lots of fun.

You'll get a larger volume of responses with more detail if you repost in the Caribbean Islands portion of the forums. You may want to be specific as to what you seek, e.g. moderate or luxe, all inclusive or not, quiet or lively, etc.. There's so much to choose from that it will help respondents provide more useful information.

As a 5 time visitor to Bermuda, let me say that the best deal on the island is the Harmony Club. This is an all inclusive, couples only resort located about 10 minutes from Hamilton. It is a small, charming hotel.. Although not directly on the beach, you get beach rights at Elbow Beach, a 2 minute moped ride away. the all inclusive includes breakfast and dinner, all your drinks (which can get pricey in Bermuda if you're paying), and the best part of all is the double moped for the entire length of your stay. The rooms a beautiful, done in Queen Anne style, and the resort staff is friendly. The couples only atmosphere makes it a great choice for a Honeymoon. The resort is known for its beautiful gardens, I have been told by friends that tours have taken them to this hotel for the gardens. August is a great time to be in Bermuda if you like the beaches. There is plenty to see and do - golfing, beaches, tennis, exploring Somerset and St. Georges's as well as Hamilton. The food is superb all over the island and at the Harmony Club as well. They have a dining plan with the Belmont for a change of pace. I highly recommend it!!
