Good eats in Phoenix?

Son and grandson leave the 26th for Phoenix where DGS will play in the USTA #1 Winter National 16's tennis tournament.
Restaurant recs? I recall hearing in particular about a spectacular pizza place a while ago.

We have been to that "spectacular" pizza place several times - it's called Pizzeria Bianco - and honestly, it's just not that great. Good, but I've had much better.

I il,e Pizzeria Bianco, interesting combinations. However, Phoenix is a huge sprawling area that seems to spread out forever with a lot of traffic.. .
Where are they staying? That info is necessary in order to help you with dining suggestions.

Use Yelp. You will see hundreds of reviews, rather than the few you will get here

itz, I find Yelp absolutely useless for almost anything, but especially for restaurant reviews. In general, Mexican and Tex/Mex are very good in Phoenix.

Are you members of Open Table? I find reliable reviews there, because you are only invited to review after you have eaten at a place.

the Barrio Cafe is very good (although I haven't been in a few years). It looks like they may have more than one location now.

If you're in downtown Scottsdale, the Breakfast Club is very good (for breakfast, I don't know if they serve lunch or dinner).

It seems to be in Glendale at the Phoenix Tennis Center, just off I17. They'll stay nearby.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Far from the restaurants in Scottsdale. I agree with suggestions of using OpenTable to search. Glendale is where the AZ Cardinals stadium.
There is a large tennis center in Surprise, AZ where I have watched matches, near Glendale, west of Phoenix. Mostly ordinary chain restaurants there but there is one local Italian,Portofino, that is good.

Why is yelp useless? Ignore first time reviewers and listen to ones who have posted many reviews. I find them very reliabe.

We have been to USTA tournaments in Surprise at least three years. Surprise is a "food desert",all those chain restaurants we won't eat at, so finding Portofino was a huge relief. We had pastas if I recall. Everyone in our large family group enjoyed it.
