good cheap eats on Kauai?

What reasonable restaurants frequented by the locals can be found on Kauai? Great food at a great price?

Brick Oven Pizza is frequented by locals and tourists alike and excellent pizza and similar-type food can be found there.

Also, try Kalaheo Steak House which has reasonable food and many locals frequent this establishment as well.

I think it is difficult to find really great food in Kauai at a great price. The great food is not the problem. It's just that everything costs so much more in Kauai because most things have to be shipped from the mainland (not fish and some of the beef comes from the Big Island). Even coffee is shipped to the mainland to be processed and shipped back to Kauai. Have you ever wondered why 100% Kona coffe is less to purchase on the mainland? This is the reason why. However, Kauai has its share of simply wonderful restaurants, and a "great price" is something different to everyone.

Good luck!

There is a a hole in the wall diner in Lihue called the Barbeque Inn with cheap, tasty plate lunches. They all come with sides of rice and macaroni salad but save room for the incredible homemade pies. There are a number of good Thai restaurants. Be sure to stop at a Lamberts ice cream stand for the best coffee ice cream in the world. By all means get a copy of Cheap Eats Hawaii by Sandra Gustafson.

Country Kitchen in Kapaa!!!! Look for the green painted building as you head north out of the town.HUGE dinner-plate sized pancakes. Great prices. Great breakfasts. Great atmosphere. We were the only non-locals when we went. Enjoy!!

The owner of the condo we rented suggested going to the hospital cafeteria since the chef is renowned for his Pacific Rim cuisine. So we tried it for lunch & the food was delicious and cheap. Lots of locals there! gt;)
Also, try Hanamaulu Cafe just outside Lihue - Asian food. Also, try Hamura Saimin in Lihue - counter service with saimin noodles and BBQ pork, satays and other side dishes. Cheap, too!
