Suggestions on where to go with two children,
ages 7 and 10. What is Dollywood like?

We visited Piegon Forge 2 yrs ago with my grandchild
and our youngest son. The eating was great!! And
there are plenty of activites for the kids. Rides and an almost carnival atmosphere will keep them
occupied. We ran out of time and didn't get to see Dollywood. But we did visit every shop.
Also, don't pass up the chance to ride up to the top of the Smokies. It is beatiful beyond words. Have a good time D

Do they mind getting up early? A big favorite of ours is to go from Pigeon Forge through Townsend
following signs for Great Smoky National Park - specifically Cades Cove. We got out there about 7 or 7;30 and saw probably 40 deer in the meadows. The mill, old farmhouse, etc. that are at the Cades Cove visitors center would be interesting to them. It's a beautiful, misty drive.

Pigeon Forge is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Gatlinburg. Lots of neat shops in Gatlinburg. Pigeon Forge has Dollywood, go-karts, shows, shopping, game rooms, minature golf, and a good size water park. You name it, they've got it. Make sure to make reservations for the Dixie Stampede. This is an indoor arena for a great horse show and a five course dinner. Contact the chamber of commerce for a bunch of brochures to give you an idea of what else they have. They've got a great Elvis show down at the Memories Theatre too. Don't forget the mountains. They have horseback riding and hiking. There's also a nature center. Have fun.

Just got back from a trip up to that region of the country. My grandparents took my 4 year old son and I up to Dollywood for a day. My only experience with amusement parks is Six Flags and a couple of European ones in Germany. By comparison, this one had more shows than anything. There were plenty of rides for my son's tastes, too many for mine. Not as many as Six Flags. Did lots of walking, so the bus that takes everyone to their cars at closing was a nice surprise. All in all, it was a fun trip. Plenty to do. Be sure to go up into the mountains and have a family picnic along the river. It's a tradition in my family that everyone enjoys.

I agree with the previous message that Dixie Stampede' s Dinner Show is not to be missed. It's is owned by Dolly Parton's organization and all ages really enjoy the entertaining show and the delicious food. Call before you go to get a reservation. They have an 800 number .
