My husband and I are going for a romantic 8 day trip to Maui and staying at the Westin Resort.

The "romantic" part of the trip will last about 2 days and then my husband will be ready to party. I have heard there is not much nightlife on the island and things close pretty early.

Is this true? Truth be told, I could care less about nightlife, but this is the 1st vacation my husband has taken in a long time. He need to unwind.

Any suggestions about what to do?
I'm perfectly happy relaxing on the beach. What about surfing lessons? I KNOW my hubby would like to try. I'm game to try, but so uncoordinated, I'm not expecting much.

I don't want to be a "tourist", but I wouldn't mind relaxing for the 1st couple of days. After that, what are some good places to go to really see the island?

Help, I JUST found out we were going, so now I'm trying to plan. It was my surprise anniversary gift.

Here's a great website that will help you plan: www.mauihawaii.org This website is put together, and updated yearly, by a couple who spend part of each year on Maui. Depending on what kinds of activities you like, you can find lots to do. My favorites are snorkeling from the beaches (Kapalua Bay & Black Rock are two favorite spots), taking scenic drives (Road to Hana), the bike ride down Haleakela, & Iao Needle. Lots of great restaurants, and some have entertainment, which should please your husband.

Lahaina has some night life - from the Hard Rock Cafe to local spots. Goofy Foot surf lessons - also in Lahaina - did a good job with my brother-in-law and three teens. They came highly recommended by the tour books I read and we were pleased. I recommend Honolua Bay for awesome snorkeling without a lot of waves.

I think Lahaina is your answer! I didn't do much nightlife as I was traveling with my family but there are tons of shops, lively bars, galleries, fun restaurants. Kind of a "honky tonk" feeling place.

Other things to do: the show called U'lalena at Myth and Magic Theatre (kind of a cirque de soile meets hawaiian history lesson) which was excellent and exciting. We went(what the hecks the name of that forest gump shrimp restaurant nearby?) out for a noisy fried food dinner and big cocktails afterwards.

Also Feast of Lele might fit both the romantic & nightlife category? Also in Lahaina.

Breakfast at Pioneer Inn then a self-guided historical walking tour around Lahaina was great (picked up the pamphlet somewhere right near the Banyon Tree).

I have come to the conlusion that so many people leave the island with the idea that there is no lnightlife here because they fell asleep early every day after a hard day of playing in the hot Maui sun.

Hi! There is a show in Lahaina that came highly recommended - The Warren and Annabelle Show. There is an age restriction of 21 and over (it's a magic show as far as I can tell so the restriction must be due to alcohol being served?) No kidding, it was great! And yes, it's the alcohol that makes the age restriction...it is a VERY clean and outstanding show!

I died laughing the entire show and was mystified at the same time by what I saw!
