going to Isle of Palms....
and need some suggestions for day trips. I am particularly interested in art created by local artists. Also hand-made jewelry.
We could also use some suggestions for things to do with three children under the age of 5! We went to the Charleston Children's Museum last year, and it wasn't impressive.
Also, any suggestions for really good pizza?
Thanks so much.

You could go to McClellanville for lunch and shopping. It's 25-30 minutes up the road from the IOP Connector (North on Hwy 17); http://mcclellanvilleartscouncil.com/
You could take the children to Fort Moultrie http://www.nps.gov/fosu/historycultu...t_moultrie.htm on Sullivan's Island. There are some cute places to eat on Sullivan's as well - Mamacita's http://www.tacomamacita.com/ and Poe's http://www.poestavern.com/
Can't help much with pizza~

I'll go last to first.
The best pizza in the Charleston area is at EVO in N. Charleston. The best pizza closer to IOP is at Andolini's in Mt Pleasant.
Have you been to the Aquarium. Those little kids might enjoy watching the fish.
There are so many art galleries downtown you shouldn' t have any trouble finding local art. Go to Dixie Dunbar on King Street for jewelry. You can also look at the Farmer'sMarket on Saturdays for local handicrafts. You might want to look at the sweetgrass baskets on Highway 17 in Mt P.
What do you want to do on your day trips. History? Amusement parks? Gardens? Plantations?

Thanks for the ideas. I would enjoy seeing a plantation, but I'd have to go by myself since we have 3 children under the age of five, and 2 men who don't go for that type of thing. I also appreciate history and architecture.
Suewoo, you mentioned amusement parks -- are there any that might appeal to young children?

The big one is downtown at Marion Square.

There are 2 in Mt Pleasant: one Tuesdays, one Saturdays:

The one on Saturdays is near Belk's at the Town Center on Saturday mornings.
