Hey just to say thanks to all who helped with answers on here about my NYC trip....I just got back to the UK and found everyone in NY to be v friendly, it seems like everyone wants to be nicer to one another cos of whats happened. The city seems really safe, and I was glad I didn't cancel... so just really to say go for it and support the New Yorkers, they need it right now!

Hi, I just want to say thanks to Claire for starting this thread! I work & live in NYC & am proud of how the city has handled the tragic situations. This time of year is beautiful to visit NYC. Go see some shows, go out to dinner, visit some wonderful museums & take a walk in Central Park.

well just wanted to do my bit really as it was a great trip...we stayed in habitat hotel, which had a great view of chrysler building out of window, small room but hey aren't they all for that price ($173 total for two nights!!what a bargain!) went on staten island ferry and spoke to a lovely new yorker about her feelings watching WTC disaster as it happened. she lost friends, as did others we spoke to, and it seems to be almost made worse that folk are cancelling their trips...new york is safer than ever..police all over and all very friendly too! you can't ignore the fact it has happened but its clear americans are now ready to rebuild and get on with their lives.
we went to a great irish bar in times square and listened to great music, chatted to more locals, went to greenwich village, again v safe place and buzzing with fun. even flew american airlines and chatted to a couple of pilots on board behind us who were telling us how its safer to fly now than ever before...lots of measures have been taken and nothing like that can happen again ever from an aircraft! you honestly do have more chance of being blown off a cliff whilst being struck by lightening. what else did we do? went to central park, wandered about about watching the leaves falling, went to macys (bit hot and v confusing due to lack of store plan! someone tell the ceo of macys... we left after half an hour! sorry you guys but harrods is far better!) did the roosevelt centre and wished we could skate and pretended the christmas tree was there, went to empire state building but it was foggy and no view ( the security guy was so nice and honest, got to hand it to him, thank you mate!) so saved a few bucks there but spent them on all the wonderful halloween tack you can find..."only in america" can one purchase halloween loo roll (rest room paper to you guys)...anyway so basically had a terrific time and go to NYC!!!!!!

Hi Claire, glad you had a good time. It is nice to know things are hopefully normalizing. Used to live in the suburbs of NYC, in New Jersey. I loved to go to the City.
Don't we have the tackiest Halloween stuff? My adult 20 something children, love the stuff, go figure.
