German Restaurant in Chicago
During our Sept trip to Chicago, we are planning for Thai, German and Italian food for lunch. (large lunch with wine)
We've had trouble locating the German Restaurant but we are now planning to go to N Lincoln and try our luck. It will be Saturday during Octoberfest, so probably will be crowded.
Glunz Bavarian looks good since Berghof has closed. (Reopened under another name, but not the same German food or atmosphere)
Do you have another suggestion?

Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying now to use the Chicago Transit Trip Planner, but it won't accept "Lincoln Square" or "Lincoln Park" where we'll probably start from nor Chicago Brauhaus.
I particularly want to take the Brown Line back and also do the "loop" on the Brown Line, but the Trip Planner puts me on the "Red Line" walking/buses from our hotel.
When I look at my map of the Trains I can't figure out where the stations are - and can't find Western on any maps (!) It's probably going to be a piece of cake, but I always research ahead of time. I'm sure we can ask the hotel people and they'll make it easy.

Brahmama,
Which hotel are you staying at? If you're staying in the Loop or Mag Mile area, you might be closer to a red line stop. In that case, you could take the red line to Fullerton or Belmont and then get on a Brown line train to Western. That would put you right in the heart of Lincoln Square.
Lincoln Park is a large neighborhood that the Brown, Red and Purple (during the week) run through. The Red line stops at Fullerton and Belmont. The purple and brown stop there and at Diversey and Wellington.

What map site are you using? Or are you using a paper map?
Google Maps has all the train stations marked. You may want to find the exact addresses of these restaurants and your hotel when you map out your routes, but you can also type in Lincoln Square Chicago IL into Google Maps, and it'll take you there.

We are staying at the Affinia at 166 E Superior. I think it's closer to the Red Line. Thanks for this information.
We will be going on a weekend (Saturday) since that's Octoberfest so we probably should stick with the trains, as the buses seem to have different schedules on the weekends.

Two Fat Feet:
I have mostly used Yahoo Maps and then ChicagoMenu maps (as they have menus & maps!) I also have the DK Eyewitness Map that comes with the book but it's too small.
I'll take a look at Google and see if that helps. Thanks!

Who knows. They annouce things on a week by week basis. Most work on most lines is on weekends.
The best advice I can give is to check here the day before you arrive so you can plan.

Also re: the L...in my recent experience the Brown Line has been VERY slow. The last few times I've been heading home (north) from downtown, I watched four or five Red Line trains pass before a single Brown Line train appeared. Solid 30 minutes each time. Ugh.
Been about a month or two since then, though.
And, yes, always check the updates.
