GC with 2 kids
Staying in Sedona in July 2019 with our 2 kids and want to visit GC. Not sure if we should make the 2 hr drive for a day trip or is it really worth getting hotel in GC to spend the night. With the heat of the summer and an 8 yr old I'm not sure what there is to do there besides hike a few short trails and check out the sights. Do we need more than 1 day? Any suggestions? The main Lodges in GC booked however there is a room in Yavapai Lodge for 1 night. Also, we are looking for something to do on the water that is mild enough for our 8 yr old? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd stay overnight. One day/night is fine. But you want to be there early in the morning/sunrise and at sunset. Not just mid day with all the day trippers.

As janis noted the water (as in the river) is a 10 mile hike down, about 5000' elevation drop. An another 10mi hike, 5000 elevation gain back up....
One of my bucket lists items is rim to rim hike in a single day.. Fast & light.. I don't think that's in the cards for an 8yr old in July....
What you could do is a 1/2 day float from Page AZ to Lees Ferry. You will travel through the lower part of Glen Canyon, the part that was not flooded by the dam.

Average high is 85 at the Grand Canyon in July .Morning is a great time to be out hiking so definitely stay overnight .
Slide Rock State Park near Sedona would be fun for your family .I'm assuming you aren't requesting water attractions for the Grand Canyon visit but rather the remainder of your stay in Sedona

Comment to J62 Rim to Rim hike
The Rim to Rim to Rim (R2R2R) quest.
The astonishing record for this 42 mile trek is 5:55:20 on 4 October 2016 by 26 year old Jim Walmsley.
In perspective:
more than 22,000 feet of vertical change, including a 5,000-foot ascent over the final 7 miles to the finish at the South Rim.
FYI - the women’s R2R2R record is 8:15:51, set by Bethany Lewis in 2011.
Consequently not on my Bucket List
