Galveston, Clear Lake City & Kemah

Hi. I'm in the process of planning a surprise b-day party. I'd like to find a good Mexican or Seafood resturant that overlooks the water. Any suggestions? Thanks.

There are a slew of places on the Kemah Boardwalk since it's been revamped in recent years. What time of year are you planning on? In the summer there are great concerts and other fun things going on in the immediate area. Check out this link for more info.

I love the Aquarium restaurant at the Kemah Boardwalk. I always ask for a table outside since it is right on the water. I highly recommend the crab & shrimp wontons but the crab & shrimp dip is very easy to share.

Also, while looking at the Kemah website, check out Captain Kidd's sailing. It isn't a day in the tropics, but I enjoy it for something different to do. http://tropicalexpress.com/

If you are thinking of Galveston, check out Landry's on the Seawall or Willie G's close to the Strand. The bananas foster crepe at Landry's is a favorite family dessert. (I still prefer the Aquarium over those two though if price isn't to be considered.)

Oh, I've also heard Babin's is quite good (Kemah Boardwalk) but I've not been there.

Hi Gluvscats,
Cadillac Grill & Bar, is a Tex-Mex restaraunt on the Kemah Board walk that overlooks the water. They have 1st and 2nd level seating. You can sit there with a margarita in hand and watch the sailboats roll in.
I have had several friends eat there & love it. I think they are relatively affordable.

I don't recall if this resaurant overlooks the water but they have great food- Gaido's in Galveston. Just remember, the "views" on the Gulf are not great. Beautiful blue water it is not.

Gaido's is on the seawall just across the street from the beach. It doesn't have a particularly nice view but it does have a long history in Galveston dining.

Pappadeaux in Seabrook across from the Kemah Boardwalk would be my choice.

tlegray-

I've not been to that particular Pappadeaux location. How does their atmosphere compare to other locations? Since I have a location reasonably close to home, I've never been to that one. I do love their stuffed shrimp and Ponchatrain. Yum!

I've eaten at that Pappadeaux location in Seabrook and enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Very lively at night.

It might be too late for your party, but last summer a Galveston local recommended this place to us for a great place to eat at sunset. We sat out on the back deck over the water and had a nice time.

Inquiring minds want to know about the party? Has it happened yet? If so, which restaurant did you choose and how was the event?

I've been out of town due to Hurricane Rita. I heard that Kemah sustained damage. Does anyone know to what extent?

I don't have specifics on Kemah, either, but my sister lives about five miles away and she didn't have any damage. I understand the area came out very well considering the possibilities they were looking at had Rita made a direct hit.

I'm still wondering how gluvscats party went.

Well, we can make up our own version of the party. Can you believe that Grandma was dancing on the tables!? Good thing Grandpa came to pick her up when he did...

(Sorry... long, bad day at work!)

Hi. The party has not happened yet. It will be in the spring and is for my friend's 50th. Thanks for all your suggestions.
