Eagle Ridge is a golf resort there that has very nice accommodations. It's set out in a wooded area. There's a nice restaurant there too. It's a bit pricey. I haven't been there for a few years. The old downtown area of Galena is neat -- with lots of unique shops and antiques.

I have stayed at Eagle Ridge - very nice place - kind of a place you want to curl up to a fireplace. Had breakfast in the little cozy kitchen area - was nothing to brag about. Ate dinner at a steak place downtown - can't remember the name but it was very good. It was on a back side street of the main drag through town. I would definately go there for dinner one night.

janice-- Just recently the St. Louis Post Dispatch travel section featured Galena, Illinois. Postnet.com is their internet site or maybe you could find the paper in your local library. jake

We stayed at Chestnut Lodge which isn't to far away. Very nice, beautiful view. A really good Italian place in Galena is Venutties. I'm probably spelling it wrong.

An absolutely wonderful restaurant in Galena is El Dorado. The food is carefully prepared, locally grown stuff when possible, free-range chickens, etc. The margaritas are incredible.

If you call the Eagle Ridge Inn they can give you information about renting a private home or townhouse in the Galena Territory. That would be ideal for two couples. All homes are fully furnished with TV, wood for fireplaces and maid service and include full kitchens for breakfast etc. You will have access to a lovely indoor swimming pool with hot tub. Miles of cross country skiing and there used to be sleigh rides when the snow is good enough. There is a small general store near the Inn where you can buy take out meals, rent VCR tapes and buy wine and deli items. I would plan one dinner at the dining room at the Eagle Ridge Inn or ask if they still have their wonderful Sunday Brunch. All of this is located within the Galena Territory, a second home/vacation/golfing resort, 7 miles east of the town of Galena. Enjoy.
