Ft. Lauderdale: Marriott Beach Place Towers???

Hi! We need a 2 BR oceanfront condo in Ft. Lauderdale for mid-June. We are considering Marriott
Beach Place Towers which is a timeshare located
about 1 mile north of Marriott's Harbor Beach
Resort. The rates seem exceptionally reasonable. Can anyone who has stayed there give us some feedback....good & bad!? Any
suggestions for alternative places to stay?
Thx!
Jennifer

Jennifer,

I read on the Frommer's "AOL" Florida East Coast message board what a great place it is! I have never stayed their but my daughter works for Marriott & says its' super! My wife & I have only stayed at Lago Mar Resorts which is very nice & secluded, private beach & whole bunch of fine dining in & around the area!

Thx, Ron! Interestingly, the other place we are considering is Lago Mar! Can you tell me a little bit about the suites
there? Are they nicely decorated, well
appointed w/ oceanfront views? When I spoke w/
reservations @ Lago Mar I found them to be somewhat vague & noninformative which kind of put me off.
I also have another question for you re:
Lago Mar: How long does it take to drive there from Ft. Laud. airport? Can you give me directions?
Thx! Jennifer

Jennifer,

We get a one bedroom super deluxe suite with private balcony, living room, separate bedroom, dining area, full kitchen every year before we go on down to Key West. We always have an ocean view & the suite comes with everything! Now, the reservation staff is very rude sometimes! Don't know why this is, but I know that I had trouble getting a suite this year becuse of that reason & Kimberly E-mail me back after all of the confusion & apoligise for what took place. I do know this, you have to get a reservation very early, like six months in advance, because their guests keep returing year after year. The place is very seclued & private on Harbor Beach but close to almost everything. I must warn you they are very expensive $200 plus per night for ours but the place is run with an excellent staff with a five star service program & they tend to your needs for almost eveything! You are very close if you are coming into the airport. They are located at 1700 South Ocean Lane. From the airport go north on U.S.1 or Federal Highway turn right to S.E. 17th St. Causeway to Mayon Drive to South Ocean Drive to Grace Lane to South Ocean Lane. Hope this helps!

Ron, thx. for your reply! Yes, I know what you mean about the reservations
staff. Very 'unwelcoming'. Can you tell me a bit about the room decor?
Luxury? Adequate? Or, somehwere in b/t?
Also, we have 2 young teens (13 & 14) & are wondering if Lago Mar is a
good choice for our kids?

We stayed for a week at Marriott Beachplace, thought it was very nice. Biggest complaint I had was having to park in a 6 story parking garage, (only because I have gotten spoiled to street level parking lots). They have a pool and hottub up on the 5th floor (outdoors) and pretty well stocked grocery/convenience store and activities for kids. We had ocean front, just a studio, had king bed, sofa bed, nice balcony, kitchenette (no stove)but microwave and fridge. It looked like a new place was going to be build next door, so ask about construction noise.

Jennifer,

I don't know about all of the rooms, but most are oversize guest rooms & suites finish in Mediterranean and Key West tropical decor! Luxury & adequate are the words! Lago Mar is great for families. Swimming, tennis, miniature golf, beachfront vollyball & shuffleboard, & children's playground and a game room will keep the kids busy!
The concierge desk will be happy to arrange for golf tee times, fishing trips, sightseeing tours and more. Hope this helps!
