Hi, we stayed at a Hotel called Pelican Beach, I believe they have a web site, or go to a search on the net for Ft. Lauderdale. It was really nice, right on the beach, HUGE rooms, beds, if you have any other questions feel free to email, we loved Ft.
Lauderdale, and when we go back will stay at this hotel again!

Best Western Oceanside is a good choice for what you're looking for. Clean, extremely helpful staff, and reasonable. We did the same as you last April - needed a hotel for 2 nights before a cruise and found this to be good. We always had our dinners at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper next door - Excellent! If I were going to Ft. Lauderdale for a week, though, I'd choose the Marriott. Best Western Oceanside is not directly on the beach. It is behind the Yankee Clipper but you don't cross the street to get to it. (just have to walk through the Yankee Clipper)

The Sheraton Yankee Clipper was a great place for my husband and I to stay after our cruise in May of this year. The beach is huge and uncrowded and the rooms are big and very clean. Price was less than $100 per night. They have an earlybird special in the dining room that we enjoyed, a pool bar, etc. I really liked the hotel a lot for the price.

Depending on what your tastes are, I may have the perfect spot for you. "The Pillars" in older Ft. Lauderdale is a older art deco type motel. There are only about 20 rooms on 2 floors circling a pool.
It sits right on the intercoastal waterway. You can
literally fish from the balcony. It's not fancy but kept up very well and the owners are very helpful and friendly. I've stayed there twice in the last 4 years and have enjoyed my stay. If you are looking for somewhere to relax this is it. It is about
a block from the ocean and on the bus route to just
about anywhere. There are much fancier places to stay but for the price (about 65.00) you get a nice room with fridge and some have kitchenettes.
Good luck and have fun......

Have stayed at two different hotels across the highway from the beach, but wouldn't recommend either. Stayed at the Sheraton for one night, but only because we couldn't get transferred out of there any sooner, despite our efforts until 3 am to do so. Ended up at the Marriott and felt the difference in price was well worth it in both accomodations and service. However, am still disappointed in the overall condition of the beachfront at any point in Ft. Lauderdale - too much trash washing in.

Marriott Marina is right across from the port. It runs a shuttle to the more expensive Marriott Harbor Beach Resort. The rooms look over the intracoastal and the port and you can see the ocean if up high enough. Very nice hotel. You might also see it you could snag a deal on the new time share hotel on the beach: Marriott Beach Place. This is a fabulous place, selling like mad but the rent at reduced rates if you will go through the pitch. It is right on the beach with 4 floors of great restaurants and clubs.
