Looking to drive from Raleigh-Durham to Miami within the coming weeks. Will be traveling with dear hubby and 7 year old daughter. We are looking at an 11 hrs drive. Want to stop along the way to rest overnight and to take in some sights along the way. Any suggestions on good stopping points or interesting points to visit.

If you aren't in a big big hurry why not divert yourself to Charleston or stop in Savannah?

Agree, Savannah is a good stopping point - it's about a 5 hour drive (halfway between Raleigh-Durham and Miami). If you want to drive a couple hours further before stopping consider St. Augustine.

Fernandina Beach has it all: historic houses and downtown, good food, white sand.

St Augustine or New Smyrna Beach. There is a Hampton Inn in New Smyrna Beach now right on flagger, minutes from the Ocean.

Nice little shops and places to eat. Very old town vibe.
