from grand canyon to flagstaf

We'll be traveling from the south rim to Sedona at the end of November. I read on this board that the ride from the Grand Canyon through the mountains to Flagstaf is breathtaking. Could anyone tell me about this drive? Which hiways do you take to get there?

Yes, it was wonderful. The wildflowers were in bloom and we stopped a few times to appreciate te marvelous views. Did not see any elks however. Very little traffic, which was nice. I am not sure of the route number, but it is not 64? Judy

Rte 180 is the route to take from Flagstaff to the GC for the scenery you are describing. Rte 64 from Williams is a mostly uninteresting drive thru non-descript plains. The only reason to take 64 over 180 is if there are weather problems as Rte 64 is a lower elevation route.

I had a small wreck after spinning on ice on 180. It's worth checking the road conditions hotline (I don't know the #) before you drive that route. It is very pretty, and worth driving if conditions are good.

I would not consider rte 180 a "route through the mouintains". It is basically flat; the views are of nearby mountains; but not riding through mouintins.
If you drive Flagstaff to Sedona via 89A, you'll be driving through a canyon; which has a similar feel of a mountain drive.
Unless there is an ealry season storm, you should be fine in November.
