Rave: This morning's beautiful sunrise

Rave: My DH surprised me with a beautiful pearl necklace - a combination anniversary/commencement gift

Rave: Had a wonderful time with my sons last weekend. I cooked like a mom and my heart was filled with their appreciation and kindness.

Rave: The NJ/NY GTG! I'm very excited

Rant: RITA...some of my husband's colleagues' homes were looted while they evacuated to northern Texas. Very sad.

Rant: Ethel's loss of her dear Hector.

Rant: Jorr's RLS - I hope you can find some relief.

Rave: GoT! Run, baby, run. I'm so sad that my son had to defer his spot until next years race. He gained weight too during his training - all muscle (legs like a horse, I call them) I look forward to reading your marathon trip report! ><

P_M, glad your family made it back safely. Did you have a fun birthday?

Bonnie, Caph, thinking of you guys.

My big rant: The population of children that I work with. Too many heartbreaking stories. I can't tell you how many times this week I drove home in tears. I only have a few short weeks with them before I move on. To "my" kids...never give up.

Tiff, hope you are sleeping better!

Wishing everyone a joyful weekend. May your travels be safe.

Happy Fall

Jorr - have you tried magnesium supplements for RLS? It seems to work for me. My grandmother used to get up and have a glass of wine for her RLS. Of course that probably knocked her out rather than treating the restless legs.

Hi, stw. Yes, I had a wonderful birthday with the family.

What a shame about the looting in Houston, this is the first I've heard of this. But I should not be surprised.

Tiff, the job search is still going very slowly. So far only 3 of the people in my office have found jobs. I still have 8 months left on my current job. It seems like I keep getting passed by for CPA's. I'm thinking if something doesn't come in 8 months, maybe I should go back to school and get my CPA or a master's. It will take at least a year just to get the coursework in, but I would never have to worry about finding a job again. It would be a very difficult year financially, but I can do it if I must.

MM,
I was on Jan.'52-Sept.'54. Left Norfolk Jan.'53 for Korea and subsequent around the world cruise, getting back to Norfolk in August. Operated with TF95 along the east coast of Korea and TF77 doing plane guard duty. Trathen became member of "Train Busters Club" when we knocked off a North Korean supply train. I just received an update on my DD214 and learned that we had been awarded the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Jorr, have you heard about taking Tums for RLS? I've no personal experience, just heard it somewhere.

Ethel, DH and I lasted 6 months before we started looking at the spca for another kitty. When they asked why we wanted a cat, DH said "For protection..." Ended up getting a second cat and they really keep each other company if we are away.

Tess - I understand the frustration. Fortunately more and more colleges are disregarding the SATs (or so they say). A 4 year history of academic excellence should count for far more than exceling on one test.

Mikemo - two greyhounds are currently curled up under my feet as I type. I love these dogs. I miss the two that have gone on before these two.

Otto - I meant to add this to my previous post. I am jealous not only of the destination but that you get to go with your Dad. Enjoy the memories that you will create. They will mean a lot to you some day.

Rave: Mr. Pickle's birthday tomorrow!

Rant: He asked me to make ravioli for dinner.

Rave: It's never too late to learn something new....

Rave: Two days of rain this week!

Rave: Ds and I made our annual trip to Dixon's Apples yesterday - just had to make sure we got some Champagne apples this year! We picked up a bushel of Champagnes and two gallons of cider.

Rave: Balloon Fiesta starts tomorrow morning!

Samschak--I went to USF too. When were you there?? (And I was there prefootball so am a Gator fan by proxy!)

Ethel--I hate that you're going through this. I remember you trying to cheer me up when we had to put Shayna down. Everyday won't feel as sad as today. I promise.

Rave: My husband got a well-deserved and long-awaited promotion!!

Rant: We haven't seen the change reflected in his paycheck...but should be coming!

Rave: It's Friday.

Rant: I worked til 5.30 and that's early for me. Who says teachers go home at 3?

Rave: It's finally cool enough to sleep with the windows open here in Atlanta.

Rant/Rave: Have to cook all weekend. We have 13 people coming for Rosh Hashana dinner Monday PM. My first holiday cooking for WJ2's family and first formal entertaining in the new house. (And I finally get to use all that fine china I got for my wedding!!)

Rant: I have to use personal days for the Jewish holidays. Having grown up in NY and living in S. Florida, I'm not used to not having off.

Rave: It's Friday!

Happy Rosh Hashanah to all who celebrate. May everyone, Jewish or not, have a sweet year!

Bennnie,
Thanks for your nice words. Luckily she's only in 8th grade, so things will either improve in the next few years with this crazy testing cycle the U.S. is in or I'll be ranting a lot more to my Fodor's friends--LOL.

jorr: DH suffers from RLS, so I know alittle about what you're going through. His affects him during the day at times as well! You have my sympathies!

OneWanderingJew: Congrats on the DH's promotion! That's ALWAYS nice!

Rant: Tired from working in the yard all day.

Rave: Beautiful, if hot weather to work in today!

Rave: My fave TV shows have started...Desperate Housewives and Lost!

Rant: Sciatica flareup...UGH!

Rave: Life is good!

OWJ--Glad to hear from a fellow alumnus. I graduated in '73 so like you was there prefootball and became a gator fan since the rest of my family attneded UF. My lovely wife teaches at USF (math ed) and we attend all the home games. Miami is going to be a very tough game for us but it is very exciting to see our Bulls making a splash in big time college football.
Go Bulls!!

Samschak---'73 Grad, eh? Guess we didn't have any classes together then. You were there a bit before my time I've never been to a Bulls football game. One of these days, I'll get back to Tampa...

Tiff and STW, thanks for the kind thoughts. STW, you mentioned the necklace being anniversary/commencement. Does that mean you're completely finished now? If so, "Congratulations!"

Ethel, I'm so sorry about Hector. Once you've had time to grieve, I hope you find the perfect kitty to fill that empty spot in your heart. Although I know that's hard to think about now.

Happy New Year, OWJ!

RAVE: Bamakelly's corn casserole recipe and the Fodorites who kept telling her how good it was! Chemo has really changed my husband's taste buds. Meat just doesn't appeal to him. He craves old childhood favorites like macaroni and cheese, creamed corn and, LOL, spaghettios! Because of his renewed love of creamed corn, I had a feeling that corn casserole would appeal to him. Today was a chemo day and tonight I fixed the casserole for supper. Despite the fact that he kept telling me he had no appetite, he ate at least a third of the casserole! Yet another reason to be thankful for Fodor's!

CAPH, I am so glad DH enjoyed (and devoured) bamakelly's corn casserole. That must have made you so happy to see him have such an appetite.

I've taken it to at least 3 potlucks this summer - and it's always been the hit of the party. It's a bit embarrassing, because it's so easy to make.

I found a 3 cheese mac & cheese recipe that I was going to make for a special friend. If you think it will appeal to him, let me know and I'll look it up.

God bless everyone - including Hector.

(That name makes me think of Baby Bear. Any Reading Recovery teachers out there?)

wtm003, I have tried the magnesium supplements. Most people find that it does not help for RLS.

Rant: I can not believe Bill Bennett said what he said. It doesn't even matter how he paraphrased it with other words. This guy is Mr. Morals?

Rave: Birdie's Bald Eagle.
