The largest manhunt in our state since 1973 may be coming to an end. Ralph "Bucky" Phillips is surrounded right now by our great NY State police. He has been on the run since basically April, and has shot 3 troopers during that time. One of them passed away on Sunday. My brother's girlfriend is a trooper and she was due to go to western NY to help in the manhunt. But, it appears that they have him now. I'm so frigain excited. I did not want her to go. He obviously didn't care and would shoot at anything in his way. Communities in western NY were shaken up---schools canceled recess and outdoor practices, people were told to stay out of the woods, etc.

Buffalogirl--has this affected you at all?

Thank you all for your well wishes. I really didn't mean to hijack the thread, as I know from reading FRR&R's that there are many people facing so many challenges.

Ethel: Ralph Bucky Phillips is "contained" in the SW corner of NY near the PA border (near Allegheny State Park). He has not been caught yet. He was pulled over in a stolen car by a state trooper, took off, crashed the car, got out and took off again, then stole another car. A K9 officer found him in a field, Ralph turned to fire at the officer, but the officer shot at him and Ralph took off AGAIN.

The guy has 9 lives. NY state troopers, PA state troopers, Buffalo police, Rochester Police, FBI, and federal marshalls are all involved. It's all over the TV stations here.

I'll let you know when there's an update.

jorr, thanks for letting me know I am not alone on the roof. Of course DH thinks I am insane and contemplated leaving me up there. I say it is one of the risks associated with my "I want it done NOW and will do it MYSELF" personality. DH is obviously a saint.

RAVE: 6 weeks. Only 6 more weeks.

No rants today, thoughts with everyone dealing with hard times (or maimed/broken body parts).

And you know, if you end up with the name "Bucky" -you sort of have to be a criminal. There's almost no way around it.

Rant: Losses. Saludos, mis amigos.
Rave: We may actually get to meet Scarlett O and the Yankee in Buenos Aires.
Rave/Rant: My 20 y/o niece, an adopted Korean orphan and honors grad at the University of Paris, rejected a full ride at GWU's Law School and GU's combined JD/MA in FS for a "guaranteed corp job" after law school at U. of P.
Another attorney, lol.
FD: my younger cousin is a Professor of Radiation Oncology (GI and GU) at U of P..
Rave: Lincoln Chaffee, R'Pub in name only, may be history after Tuesday's Pub primary.
AnneS, Have fun in D - the weather finally looks reasonable. Is she really now a senior?
Rave: I'm more than 20 + 40 and it has been a great ride. Hope you all can follow and say the same when you are ancianos, lol.
jorr, did you read the NYT's article about E-85? Also, as you know, I spent 8 years 5 months 25 days on active duty as a commissioned officer in the USN; paid >35 years maximium FICA and plan to collect at the max level.
Life here is superb.
Feliz fin de semana.
M (SMdA, Gto.)

Rant: Five years later...

BuffaloGirl, I am so very sorry for your loss and for the illness of your father. My prayers are with you in the hopes that you can find comfort and peace.

mms, best wishes on your Anniversary!

Caph, OUCH!

Rave: The kind and caring people on this forum who share the in the joy of others.

Rave: My new job and people who are bending over backwards to get me what I need to help the kids I work with. I am exhausted and look like crap by the end of the day, lol.

Rave: Long, cold showers.

This is not really a Rant, but you know how difficult it can be to break any sort of addiction ... I get to spend less and less time reading threads on Fodors while I spend more and more time reading my case reports. Found out today that some case reports went missing (prior to my arrival)...I guess that's NYC for you.

Super Duper Rave: My sons are visiting this weekend. The youngest is in a musical concert this weekend. Song always brings such peace to my heart.

Continued good thoughts to those who struggle...

Safe and happy weekend, everyone!

StephCar, LOL.

Mikemo, The NYT is not exactly any kind of go-to newspaper about new energy technology in the midwest. I really do not think that any NY reporters have a grasp on what is happening out here and they would rather dismiss it.

We in the midwest are investing billions in this new energy for America. There is a $150 million plant being built only a few miles from where I live. Dozens are already online. If you want to rely on OPEC or Canada go ahead. We will be there for you if they cut us off.

Hope we can have a discussion in a few years when you are buying E-85 from the people you fly over (when you come back to the states).

Raves:
Good friends.

Fodorville, never a dull moment, although lately...LOL...
But really, Raves for the Fodorites who have been here for what seems like Forever, for continuing to answer the same questions, give great advice, even when some don't appreciate it, for keeping your sense of humour..that is a Rave indeed!
And welcome to the newbies, who keep us provided with plenty of questions to answer

We are going to Buenos Aires !!
E-tickets printed, hotel suite booked, car picking us up ( so we don't have to worry about getting into the wrong taxi and ending up in Patagonia playing with penguins)

Rave:
My friends in NYC.
On Monday, we will all be holding hands, even though we are miles apart-God Bless

No Rants...
