LOL I'm sure Adm. DeMars, Adm. Konetzni, Adm. Crowe, Adm. Trost, Adm. Thunman, Adm. McKee, Rear Adm. Rindskopf, etc. (not to mention one rather prominent ex-President whose own state would have gained) would be a bit abashed to hear that they didn't want the Base. What makes you think the Navy doesn't want it??

Happy Friday! As Jersey mentioned, it's been georgous weather here in NJ.

Rave: It's Friday and I'm here. Last week I was on a trip for the new business, got home late Friday night and was just too tired to post.

Rave: Last week's trip & presentations went great! New business is really starting to get going. Feels good!

Rant: Gas prices & more driving than normal. I feel like the car is hemoraging gas it goes so quick!

Rave: We bought some really cool wrought iron cemetery fencing on E-bay. Guess who gets to refinish it while DH builds the retaining wall? Finished first of four sections - it looks great!

Rave: DH & friends (aka helpers) pouring concrete pad for base of retaining wall tomorrow. Aah...Progress!

Rant: Every house project begets another. PamSF...what is it you said about never finishing?

Rave: DH & I share a "vision" for our projects that usually is in agreement.

CD- Glad to hear your "lower level" is almost done!

Meesthare - So sorry about your cat.

Ryan - Glad to see you here...have been thinking of you from time to time.

Jersey - sorry no can do on taking that 15 yo off your hands...unless she likes home improvement projects. We could put her to work?

Have a great weekend everyone! Trish

Rave: Portsmouth Navy Yard and New London Sub Base off base closure list.

Rant: Mike, get over it. These bases are important if for no other reason that the defense dollar be shared throughout the country.

Rave: Men and women fighting on our behalf around the world.

Rant: The pud'n head in the White House who exploits their courage.

Would it have been a rant if you lived closer?

Thanks for welcoming back!

Not to sound preachy, but just a quick word of advice, please listen to the Public Service Announcements that suggest regular medical check-ups. I ignored them for and only caught a potentially life-threatening illness because I needed a routine test when I bumped up my life insurance.

I generally felt fine and would have continued to be ignorant of the problem I had without that routine insurance exam.

Trish: Are you thinking of, "House done, life done." ?

That has been our motto since buying a cosmetically challenged house last year.

Rave: Rolling Stones concert was awesome! (posted this week)

Rave: Got 2nd row box seats for Red Sox at face value for Monday - yay!

Rave: Picture the Staples TV ad, pushing the cart down the aisle whilst kicking up my heels, schools about to start!

Rave: DSS leaving Sunday for college, DSD going back to her Mom's after being with us for the summer - whew!

Rant: Still need to buy clothes, shoes and haircuts for school.

Rave: Renovation soon to add a bathroom and finish the lower level.

Rant: Hurricanes - be safe!

Best wishes to all for a wonderful weekend!

Kureiff, that's the one. As an Interior Designer by profession, I can assure you that I'll never be done. Once I get this house the way we want it, it'll be time to move.

Good thing I enjoy the process.

Rave: In about 24 hours I will be sitting on a Cape Cod beach. 10 friends and family will spend a week in a beautiful beach house having the time of our lives!!!

Rant: My father in law passed away this week after a long illness. He will be missed by all, but we are happy his suffering is over. My DH took it real hard.

Rave: A week in Cape Cod will hopefully bring some stress relief and healing to DH!

Rant: In twelve days my one and only "baby" starts high school. It doesn't seem possible. I don't want to let go of the apron strings just yet......... Do I have to? (Yeah, I know, I have to).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rant: It looks like it's going to go onshore in the Panhandle--those poor folks have gone through enough with bad weather!

RAVE: Baking Christmas cookies in August with the world's sweetest granddaughter!!! What a joy she is 24/7! We've had a ball for 15 days now, swimming pool, beach, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, visiting relatives, NC Zoo, with another 10 days (including the drive home, to go.) Today we "built" a lavender teddy bear who's now wearing a cheerleading outfit and a brown wig! Then school-shopping at Children's Place, buying blue lipstick from Claire's (for playing dress-up), cookie-baking and swimming this afternoon .... what a hoot and a joy a sweet seven year old is! Thank you to all of you who have sent us your good wishes!

RANT: My poor Trissie, almost 16 year old Cairn Terrier, had two teeth extracted this morning. We think that was the cause of his discomfort and restlessness this past week, but not sure. If this doesn't help him, we are still befuddled, worried and $650 poorer. What do we do next? At his age, he can only stand so much "probing."

Meetshare, so, so sorry about your kitty. They really become part of your heart.

LoriNY, happy anniversary and many more!

To all of you with kids learning to drive, bless you! I remember it ... it was AWFUL!

Have a wonderful weekend, all!

Rant: Just spoke with my buddy from college who is now a FB Col. Has spent his entire career in the Rangers, 82nd, etc., and he is PUMPED that he's going back to Iraq to continue the mission. ALL the way!

I went to jump school a year after him, but I will echo his thoughts.

Rave: jerks like jorr...

Oh bonniebroad, what beautiful sweet memories for both you and your dear little granddaughter. That is a great age! Enjoy every precious moment, I know you both will. BTW, did you get blue nail polish to go with the blue lipstick? If not, better take another shopping trip.

Meesthare, I am so sorry about your precious kitty. I know you have done everything possible. I was thinking, I bet OWJ's darling greeted yours and know they are romping together through flower filled green fields under a warm sun and a beautiful rainbow.

LeeAnn, we didn't hear anything in my area about the tragedy in yours. That is horrible!!

P_M, ROTFL!!! Well a gal has to do what a gal has to do, right? Seriously though, I hope you find the right job for you real soon. And enjoy your fathers and stepmom's festivities. It sounds like a wonderful weekend.

Hey Jersey, think my daughter will take your 15 year old daughter if she can ship her 14 year old son to your place, LOL. Oh, isn't that a great age! But hang in there. This too will pass, honest.

To all of you feeling sad because your youngsters are getting older, I sure understand. They grow up to quickly.
And every year at this time when school starts it sure remind us of this fact. May everyone's students have a good school year. May all our teachers here on Fodors have a good and pleasant school year also.

Hi Ani, unfortantly any time children and flying discussions come up there are always some very negative comments. Please tell your wife to not take it personal. I have seen it happen since I have been on Fodor's.
A beautiful trip to all three of you. And enjoy that little princess of yours, imagine you will have more then a couple decades showing her the world. I sure enjoyed travelling with my daughter.

It's been a while since I have posted on FFR&R, but here goes:

Rave: Our small 18 bed Labor & Delivery unit was rated in the top 5% in the country!!!

Rant: Our average daily census has increased 10 fold in the past 8 months and our staff has not increased at all........causing an enormous amount of stress.

Rant: Hospital administrators that enjoy looking at the bottom line...why should they increase staff if the current number of staff can manage the job!!!

Rave: Large hospitals located in Tampa that need experienced L&D nurses...cause that's where we'll be headed if this trend doesn't change.

Rave: I was the nurse for my bestfriend's oldest daughter on Tuesday.

Rant: My bestfriend lost her youngest (16 yoa) to ovarian cancer in February. Her youngest chose a name if her sister delivered a girl.

Rave: It was a girl!!! Can't remember a more emotional delivery...am so thankful that I could be a part of it.

P M: Thanks for giving me something to laugh about after my very and trying week!

Can't wait for my next vacation...
