P_M...you must, must, must read the Ballad of Bessie and Clyde, by Aaron Latham. It's the story of his father who at 80 finds his love rekindled by a childhood chum, long after he thought all fires had permanently been extinguished. It takes place in Post, TX, making it even more meaningful for you. It is such a feel good book, and it's true! From Daughter's and Co review: "The Ballad of Gussie and Clyde is a charming and true tale, written by Aaron Latham, son of Clyde in the story. This is a down-to-earth account of a dapper widower and his childhood friend, who become re-acquainted in their 80's, revisit their memories, fall in love and decide to marry. It holds special meaning and tender surprises for adult children with the awesome responsibility of discerning what is best for their aging parents." It will be a perfect read for you!

meetshare--are you in a buyer's market? I'm assuming you are saying "no" to their demand to drop your price? Good luck--it'll sell, hopefully sooner rather than later.

mms--what terrific news!

Marilyn...if that is the definition of the Zen School of Carpentry, then I probably belong to the Zen School of Home Decorating. I have hit a brick wall after a flying start in getting settled here. For the past few months, there have been sets of pictures just leaning against walls frozen by inertia, and a few boxes that just can't get unpacked no matter how long I look at, and think about them!

Rant: by brother had triple by-pass surgery last week. Before going in he worried about a phenomenon called "Pump head"...a diminishment in mental capacities they think may be caused by hook-up to the heart-lung machine.

Rave: He is healing well.

Rant: I'm now very worried about Pump Head too. I'm afraid he has it.

Happy Weekend all...

Jersey: Glad to hear your father is making progress. Happy Birthday to your DDs - time does fly.

mms: Glad to hear the news about your son!

OO: I had never heard of "Pump Head" until now. My dad had a triple by-pass and went into a depression as a result (but knowing this, other things are making sense to me now). How scary for you and your family. But left with the alternatives, what choice does a person really have? I wish your brother all the best - keeping good thoughts.

PM: Ain't love grand?!?

Faina: You must have been a good girl in order to get that flat screen monitor, lol

AHaugeto: I think your DH is "nesting". I don't know what my DH's excuse is, 'cause I'm not preggers, lol.

Here is an interesting story about triple bypass surgery on MSN - I was checking my hotmail

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/8908170/

After the surgery 3 wives of the same man gathered at his bed

I (sorry if this is too much detail, people, but I can't think of another way to tell you) passed an intact but empty amniotic sac and placenta Wednesday evening. I'm not sure if the baby was just absorbed into my body somehow or if there never was a BabyDil to start with.

I am disappointed, but it helps a lot that I didn't see a baby there. I'm also glad we didn't tell our extended family and some other people who wouldn't have been thrilled for us. Too bad everyone isn't like you lovely Fodorites...

Rave: Unexpected visit last night from long-time friends who were passing through town. Their oldest son is starting vet school at CSU. It was good to see them!

Rave: 17yo dd is recovering nicely from having her wisdom teeth removed.

Oh LeeAnn, I am so sorry! I've been there and know the feeling. It isn't easy at all. Just let your family pamper you and grieve as you need. Here is a great big cyber hug for you!

LeeAnn-You know there is nothing we can say to ease this. Those of us who have been there can only send a hug and well wishes. Sigh. I'm so sorry.

Will do a proper posting later. But had to jump in to say how sorry I am to hear your news, Lee Ann. As with mms, I've been there too. Twice, as a matter of fact. And my heart breaks for you. As someone who had also been there said to me at the time, it's amazing how quickly we become attached. And that's why you have to allow yourself time to grieve.

Take care
Cathy

My sympathies also, to those having difficult times right now.

Rant: I can't get my trip pics uploaded so ya'll can view...have spent countless hours trying! Tried Picasso and World is Round.

Rave: Computer savy DIL on the way for a visit! I'm hoping she will help me!

Pray for her father, who underwent 1st chemo Rx this week.

RANT: Husband's cousins came for an overnight stay(freeloaders on their way south) with two little wild guys and a teenage gothic son. Well, this was the longest night of my life!!!!!

RAVE: They left this morning and I am tired, but if they try to hit us up for the return north, we will be conveniently out of town!!!!!

Lee Ann - I am so sorry for your loss and LoveItaly, my thoughts are with your friend.

Rave: DD #1 is also recovering nicely from her wisdom teeth removal today. She is a much better patient than DD #2 who had her removed 2 months ago.

Rant: First paying theatre show that my DD #1 was in right after college graduation was canceled due to bee infestation in the theatre. She had such a great part and had worked so hard on the role. Who ever heard of bees taking over a theatre?

Rave: My Mom came home today after knee replacement surgery three weeks ago. She was in a rehab facility for two of those weeks. She is so excited to be home and her knee is getting stronger every day.

Rave: Going to Durham/Chapel Hill next week for a couple of days. It's for business but hopefully will have a little free time. First trip to North Carolina so am looking forward to it.

Rant: I got fired today over BS

Rave: I was looking to leave the job anyway

Rave: 8 months to go before I become Mrs. Janna

Rave: Most of the major vendors are booked!!!

Rave: After a long absence, I can come back to this board because now we're planning our honeymoon

Rave: It's been a beautiful summer here in NY!!

Paula, thank you for your loving thoughts. Just talked to my dear friends husband, just a matter of time. Thank you so much. It is good to hear that your mother is doing well after her knee operation. Know about those bees. That is a strange story, how scary!!
And dear LeeAnn, you know how many prayers I send to you. A big bunch of hugs too.

Cobbie, guess what!!! You know the restaurant will not take reservations for a party less than six. Well let me tell you. We have a reservation for the time we are going to meet! Is that great or what? I too am so looking forward to our dinner.

Bonniebroad, you enjoy that dear granddaughter. You know how I enjoy mine, except they are all grandsons. Oh a granddaughter would be perfect!

P_M, so many good thoughts are sent to you and your husband. Hopefully fantastic jobs will be in your future.

mms, I sure hope you know how many prayers are sent to you and your dear son. May every medical exam bring nothing but good news. And in the meantime many cypber hugs to all of you.

Hugs to everyone that are going through trying times, and I sincerely means this.

And wishes to everyone that somehow, somewhere, there is some fun or some peace this weekend.

LoveItaly, I'm jealous of the way you so sweetly and sincerely mention all the previous posters. It's hard when you come in late into the posts! I apologize if I miss anyone.

And, LoveItaly, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. If this has to be the end, I hope those around her are able to make it as easy and comfortable as possible.

Bonnie, have fun with your granddaughter!

Margot, I'm so glad to hear that your mother is back out of the hospital. And so sorry to hear about your old friend. How sad! Especially for her family.

Jersey, "Rant (mini): DD#2 off to college this week. She goes early for soccer. I'm happy for her and sad for me." Boy, do I empathize with that! My daughter goes back to Massachusetts (from Chicago 'burbs) for her second year at the end of this month. She loves it there. I think she's really found her niche. And I'm thrilled for her. But so sad for me! What makes it bearable (bareable?) is that, between IMing and the phone, I communicate with her almost as much when she's there as when she's home!

P_M, still sending good wishes your way re your job interviews. I know things will work out for the best.

Meesthare, "Rave: The caring people who check in with each other here every week, and Jorr for giving us the meeting place." I second that!

esther, I'm really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope that, now that they know what it is, they'll be able to give you some relief from the pain.

mms, what wonderful news! I know you were worried about the re-check. (And I know just how you felt as we get close to time for my husband to have another CT scan!) I'm so glad it turned out to be good news!

Tiff, thanks again for thinking of me. You're so sweet! I don't know what you were referring to at the end of your post. But it was obviously something painful for you. I wish you all the best in dealing with it.

OO, best wishes for a speedy and *complete* recovery for your brother.

Congrats to all of those celebrating weddings or anniversaries!

After all of that, I realize that I'm sort of in limbo. No particular rants or raves. Just extremely happy that, at the moment, everyone here seems to be doing relatively well! Only other thing I can think of to say is that I finally got around to starting "The Time Traveler's Wife" and I'm enjoying it immensely!

Hello CAPH, a special hug to you and yours with wishes for a beautiful weekend!

And dear Tiff, I do not know who your Mattie Matt is but I send a prayer to you and yours as obviously you have had a loss. A special hug to you also.

To everyone that has had a loss of a loved one, or has a loved one that is going through a medical crisis, to everyone that is having stress, physical or mental; I send prayers and good wishes to you that your life will improve and become a joy. Peace!
