MAJOR RANT: That our dear Fodor friend, Wildflower, was killed by a drunk driver

Rave: LeeAnn, Oh my goodness what fantastic news!!! I am so excited for you but then again I just love babies. Like Scarlett, I am a bit envious. I will get to see this little bundle of joy when I see you!! That will be precious! Congratulations to you and your DH and family.

Jorr, I have been trying to find a decent painting contractor for a year. I understand your frustration. Sounds like you are getting it worked out. Best of luck to you. And thanks for the FFR&R's. I always look forward to it.

And dear OWJ, you know how I feel about dear Shayna. You are all in my heart constantly. But you know that.

Scarlett, you know how many good wishes go to you and Yankee and Pup for an easy cross country drive. And I know you will all enjoy beautiful Portland.

GoTravel, it is so good to see your post. Take care during your run, know Charleston must be hot and humid.

PM, your comments gave me a good chuckle. Lifes frustrations, yes?

Tiff, good luck with painting your dresser. I actually did that once and it turned out great. Think the secret is all in the preperation.

Seetheworld, congratulations. There is nothing like passing an exam but with an excellent score to boot! Hope you can celebrate this weekend.

Bonniebroad, I would have been ticked off too. Some people just don't think things out do they?

MMS, I am sorry about the loss of your mother-in-law. Prayers to you and your family. I know this is a difficult time, especially for your DH. May beautiful memories of her be part of the thought process.

Dear Clousie, although I did not know WildFlower the thought of someone being killed by a drunk driver always makes me sick. I saw so much of that in my years owning an insurance agency.
Which I why I caution visitors who visit Napa/Sonoma wineries to keep wine tasting and driving in mind. I am so sorry. Such an uncalled for death.

Rave: Speaking of babies, the baby in our family was born last Tuesday in Portland OR. A big bouncing boy who will have the joy of loving and wonderful parents and family. We are all so excited.

Rave: My SIL's operation (which was so dangerous) turned out perfect and he is doing just great.

Rave: My grandson who started his new full time job this last Monday and loves it. He is on his way to success.

Rave: The friends of the family who took another grandson to San Diego for several days and treated him like a memmber of their family.

Rave: Sounds like a friend of mine who lives in the region of Veneto in Italy but who is visiting family in Mexico City will be here with me for a week at the end of August. I will so enjoy her company and showing her San Francisco etc.

Rave: Being in SanFrancisco with our precious Faina, I am so looking forward to that.

Rave: My grandson who, while in San Diego and surronding areas and visiting DisneyLand, gave his FastPass ( is that the correct name?) to a mother who was standing in a 90 minute line while holding a baby. He said she needed it more than he did. He is only 14 years old! Our future world will be a great place if all our young people have empathy as he does.

Rave: All the wonderful people here on Fodor's.

Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend.

>>LeeAnn,
You DO know what causes that, doncha?<<

Yes, I do, and we practice often!

I have a friend with a large family, and when someone asks her "don't you know what causes that?" she gets this wide-eyed blank look on her face and says, "You know, we've been trying to figure that out. Could you explain it to me?"

seetheworld - 17yo dd wanted to know how I knew it was a pregnancy and not menopause! LOL Almost 10yo ds hopes it's another boy because he already has two sisters and that's enough.

Buckeyemom, I'm going to have to live a long time just to keep up with this new little one!

Congrats, Leeann! My former coworker had a baby at 44, her 4th...The other kids were in high school and one in college! They were all shocked but all worked out and now she has built in babysitters! The funniest thing is that #3 was at first so embarrassed b/c she realized her parents just didn't sleep when they were alone in the bedroom

LoveItaly, I have SIX painters scraping and painting my house today. YaHoo! I can't understand how this guy can be making any money for the up-front cost he gave me which is a final cost. Here's a tip about working with contractors. Make sure you talk to them every day about the work and what they will be doing tomorrow.

fdecarlo, I agree that some people over-plan a vacation to death. We have went on vacations only knowing where the plane was landing and totally winged it and had a blast.

Hi jorr, just read your comments to me and I will certainly keep your instructions in mind. Thank you. Now if I can only find a licensed and insured painting contractor that has some references I would be so happy.
I have been checking with everyone I know in out town, guess I will start calling painters listed in the yellow pages of our phone book. BTW, I was able to have the windows open here for about 7 hours, then "wham" the heat hit again. I am so sick of A/C. Take care and thanks again for your good advise.

Farewell My FodorFriends For a While!!

We are taking the computer down tonight or tomorrow, wiping it clean and giving it away.
I will be off the internet for perhaps a month.
Will Scarlett survive the sudden and abrupt end to her posting and emailing?
Stay tuned and in August or September, we will find the answer~

Scarlett

OWJ, you ole instigator you! I wish I could observe you in the classroom, my gut tells me you are one terrific teacher! So, this is lucky 13, being a responsive person is a job hazard -- can't help myself

gyppielou, I'd love a recipe for those ribs! How do you cook them for two days in the oven without them becoming dried out?

Lee Ann, reading yours was quite a shocker! I can understand what you mean about needing to get used to the idea. But what wonderful news! I mean, let's face it, is there any better news in the entire world than a new baby! Congratulations!!

Tiff, thanks so much for your continued prayers! Can't begin to tell you how much they're appreciated.

Seetheworld, congrats on passing your test! I'm sure you'll do just as well on the next one.

OWJ, I sure hope your kitty starts to feel much better very soon.

P_M, congrats to your father and step-mother! Hope the celebration is lots of fun.

Sfamylou, sounds like a great trip! My husband and son were at the Cubs/Cardinals game at Busch last Sunday as part of our trip. My husband had been at Busch the first season (as had I) and wanted to be there the last season. I have a feeling that's why you're going too. Enjoy!

Scarlett, congratulations on the closing! Hope the move goes as smoothly as it is possible for such things to go!

RAVE: Just got back from stage one of my husband's two-week vacation. Had a really nice trip to visit the in-laws in southern Illinois.

RAVE: Looking forward to stage two which is day trips into Chicago over the next week.

No rants!
