Rant: Two despicable persons, posing as police detectives, approached my father in a park, game him a song and dance about investigating robberies in the area involving a red car (my father has a red car). My dad has some dimentia and gets easily confused when in an unfamiliar situation. Anyhow, they talked him into driving home while they followed in their own car, he let them in the house, and they stole $1,000!!!

Rave: I thank God they didn't hurt or kill him.

Rant: I'm having a garage sale tomorrow. It's a lot of work.

Rave: I'm having a garage sale tomorrow. Hopefully I'll make some $$$ to put in my Cape Cod/Boston trip account!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rave: After tons of fundraising 18 kids and 4 adults leave Sunday for our week-long mission trip to Detroit.

Rave: the kind people on this board who help me plan this and all trips!

Rave: weather is sunny and 70s today.

Best wishes and Happy Fathers Day to all

Rave: my beautiful 18 year old son graduated high school yesterday. Talk about bittersweet...
He is flying on a senior class trip to Europe on Monday for 2 weeks. (how's that for keeping it to travel, Gekko? !)
Rave: There's actually a little sun here in southern Cal. this am! So welcome.
Rave: at last, the media has started to report a little bit on this godforsaken war.
Rant: people who tell I don't support the troops if I am against this war. I do support the troops.

Oh Gekko, I don't think Fodors is going to get rid of a popular thread that has had approximately 13,000 posts over the past two and a half years! A money making hit for fodors (ad rates are based on web site clicks per day), and a weekly get-together for fodorites. Mega web sites like eBay not only like this kind of thread, they encourage it.

Byrd, You must live in the South. Ripe tomatoes already? Ours plants are still babies.

another Rave: I just got a second estimate for painting our house. Its $900 cheaper and he does good work. We live in an old two story with cedar shakes on all sides. Some people think that I should cover it with other "modern" siding. No way.

Rave: I have another new nephew - Thomas was born Sunday night and joins his sisters Bridget, Mary and Maggie. Thomas also has 32 first cousins!

Rave: My daughter just won the President's Award for Academic Excellence by getting straight A's in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. She also won school awards in math, science, phys ed and music. She's a great kid who worked hard to get those grades and of course we are very proud of her.

Rant: People who prey on the elderly or children. All children should grow up safely without fear or hunger. All our elders should be honored and be able to enjoy their retirements without fear or economic worries.

Prayers for all Fodorites in need, suffering with illness or worry.

Hugs and best wishes for everybody going trough difficult times! "If you are going through hell, keep going" (Churchill)

Congratulations to everybody who has anything to celebrate!

Rave: got a better pay raise then a year ago! May mean more money for travel?

Rant: rent increase and inflation will eat it anyway.

Rave: restaurant dinner with all our children for father's day!

Rave: Midwest Express airlines for their extra wide seats and chocolate chip cookies.

Rant: Unless I'm flying to Milwaukee, not many opportunities to use them.

Rant: Those people who are so anal that they'd suggest I only make those last two comments on the Airline board.

Rave: Richard Lamm's comments made in a speach 18 months ago.

Rave: Thanks for the good wishes from you wonderful Fodorites, and special thanks to borealis and Tiff!

Happy Birthday, gomiki!

PamSF - I'd love to pick your brain more about southern France - my e-mail is [email protected], and if you shoot me an e-mail, I'd love to "talk"!

CAPH52 - from one native Chicago suburban girl (raised in Highland Park, lived in the northern 'burbs 'til age 26) to another, I just want to say that you seem to be handling your travails with a great deal of strength and dignity. Sounds like you're doing your best to take good care of yourself in the process, which is so important! Keep up the positive attitude, and my thoughts are with you and your DH.

Rave: All the beautiful people on Fodor's that have written messages here and via email as I fumble through taking care of grandson's and worry about the serious family problems in Rome. Your thoughts and care have helped me more than you will ever know.

Rant: I have not had time to answer the beautiful emails I have received but hopefully will by the end of this day.

To all of you that are under stress for whatever reason I send my good thoughts. May you all be surronded by good people that care about you and will help you in any way that you need.

And to all of you that are celebrating good news, babies, great children, good news at work etc., congratulations.

And to all Dad's everywhere my very best wishes for a beautiful and relaxing Father's Day Weekend.

Rant: As some of you know from last week's R&Rs, I found out recently that my job was ending next year. That was only the beginning of a one-two punch. This week we learned that my husband's job is ending in November. I have been so depressed it's unreal. I have been asking myself why is this happening all at once? Where in the hell have all the jobs gone here in Austin?

Rave: I have received so much support from my friends here on the board. I posted another thread where I invited the Fodorites to e-mail me directly. Not only did I get even more support, I have even received some job leads from that!! My special thanks goes out to seetheworld and memejw, and all of the Fodorites who have made me feel like this will turn out for the best.

Rave: I have made some calls to people in the oil and gas industry who work in Houston and Dallas, and they say the job market is good right now. So we're looking at moving to one of those cities.

Rave: I'm not quite there yet, but I'm beginning to think that life is about to take me on an exciting new adventure. I am still quite sad to think we might be leaving our beloved Austin, but living in Houston or Dallas could have it's benefits.

Rave: I said it before, but I can't say it enough--you Fodorites are the best. Thank you for being there for me.

Rave: My father is alive and well to enjoy Father's Day.

As always, hugs, prayers, and warm wishes to all of you going through tough times. I realize that health issues are many times worse than employment issues, so I will be thinking and praying for all of you.

Happy Father's Day to all dads and grandads.

Margot55, what nice things to say! Thank you so much! Notes like yours are what's getting me through this. It's so sweet of you to take the time to write such a nice note to someone you don't even know! Again, Fodorites are the best!

Prayers and all my best wishes to you. Watching a parent decline is so, so difficult. And I know it's certainly not easy to see your beloved pet suffer. So sorry that you have to deal with both of these things at the same time.

Rave: I'm working sick, and it's the end of the fiscal year, so I have to- but I am getting better. And the weather is glorious.

Rave: Only 10 more days to a week at the lake.

Rave and wish: For continued strength and a positive attitude with health problems and testing to all who are going through this. CAPH52, good wishes from the South Suburbs as well.

Everyone have a good weekend.

I'll be watching the Dodgers against the White Sox for the first time since 1959 and also get to see my brother before he heads back to Iraq.

If we are still this much in the lead by the All-Star break, I think I will buy a 9 game plan.

43-22

bennnie, your family sounds like mine all the time.

I so know how you feel. My husband was made to take early retirement last year. I have always had a "job" but he is the one with the career. Now way were we ready to retire. Not having benefits was a big deal as Cobra cost us $700.00 a month. He had been transfered to another state many years ago so when this happened, we decided to move home. We used the sale of our home and some of his 401K to pay cash for a wonderful condo close to our family. It took a year but he found a job in his career field just a mile from our new home. We feel so blessed.. Just keep going, I know it will all work out!!

BIG Rant: Dear friend's 28 year old son diagnosed yesterday with testicular cancer, with chance it has already started to spread. Tests and scans today, with surgery scheduled for Monday.

Rave: Just back from a very restful three days at friend's cabin on Lake Huron, enjoying beautiful sunrises and evenings sitting by the fire. Now back to sad reality

Thank you, cd.

It's hard to believe that just 3 weeks ago on the R&R's I was over the moon as I was leaving the next day for my big UK trip. I had no idea what was just ahead of me. How my world has changed since then.

LoveItaly, I am sorry to hear of your troubles as well. And TravelerGina, your story is quite sad, but do not lose hope for a cure. You reminded me of a rave I meant to post today. I hope you will post the same rave soon.

Rave: A few months ago I posted a rant about a friend of mine who was in an advanced state of breast cancer. The prognosis was grim, and at that time we didn't have much hope. Well, after 8 rounds of chemo (poision as she calls it) she has been declared to be in remission!! This the exact opposite of what was expected. I received this joyful news this week, and it does help to put things into perspective. My problems are unimportant.

Rave: New great niece finally went home from the hospital after 15 days of observation for a jaundice thing. Her pictures are beautiful...she looks just like my niece did at birth!

Rant: I've had a tonsilitis type thing for a week now. Just go away!!!

Rave: trip to Thailand/India/ Boston/Portland is shaping up nicely and I may be able to stay an extra 4 days in Portland, then meet up in LA for our company "jaunt", rather than fly to HNL and back again!

Prayers and good thoughts to all Fodorites! What could be more travel related than making friends all over the world?

"Gordon Gekko"? :-"

While I wouldn't wish the past 6 months of my and Mrs Kal's lives on my worst enemy, I can still feel for all of us FFFs going thru their own trials and tribs...but all in all, it's STILL a good life. Let's all hang in there.
>-[-o<

Rant: A special place in for Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller and the Judges who keep releasing him.
