Freaky Friday Rants & Raves 4-21-06
Rant: Those Lamacil TV commercials where the germatifite lifts up a toe nail.
Rave: The channel down button.
Rant: In a dream a few nights ago my house burned down and the fire truck drove by which was also on fire. Then my insurance agent told me my house wasn't covered because I was eating food in a room other than the kitchen. The insurance agent was a local undertaker. What's with that?

Stange dream, Jorr! I won't even try to analyze that. Better check your home insurance regarding not being covered because of eating in another room other than the kitchen!
Rave: Had my car washed. My groceries were dry because they were in the trunk!
Rave: The love of my life, a beautiful Pomeranian named Prince is going to stay with me this week because my friend is going on vacation to Jamaica.
I can't wait to hug and kiss him!
Rant: It took my friend almost a month to thank me for watching Prince for 5 weeks while she had to work overseas.
Rave: Another friend is coming from NJ to spend the day with me.
Rant: Actually she wants to go to a particular dress shop 20 minutes from my house.
Double Rant: Sitting in a dress shop watching someone try on dresses.
Rant: My heel started to hurt today. I have been limping and I love to take long walks. I hope it goes away soon.
Rave: Going Saturday night to watch my DD perform in her Winterguard program in New Jersey.
Rave: The beautiful weather we have been having.

LOL Jor, having been an Insurance Broker for decades..I don't know what to say about your dream..what IS that dream all about?
Rant: Went to the Dr. today to get my monthly B12 shot. As usual they had me stand on the scale to see what I weighed. In stepping on the scale I put my purse down on the counter next to the scale (didn't want to include that in my weight). I felt a sharp prick on the middle finger of my left hand. Long story short, a few minutes later the tip of my finger started bleeding. What the heck? The nurse called the Nurse Practioner who acted like "what was my problem?". My finger was bandaged. Now it is not bleeding but there is a white swollen bump..what happened? Condsider this a Rant, LOL.
Rave: A wonderful Easter Day with my family.
Rave: We have had blue sky and sunshine and temps in the 70's all week. After months of rain this is a true rave!
Oldmyst, I sure hope the heel of your foot gets better, that is not fun.
OK, it is not Friday yet on the left coast but I wish everyone a happy weekend!

Thanks LoveItaly for your kind concern regarding my heel. If it doesn't get better I will go to a podiatrist. Sorry about your finger. Cuts on your finger can hurt a lot. Happy weekend Jorr, Scarlett, and LoveItaly!

Rave: 3 beautiful days of sunshine in a row here in WA/OR area
Rant: I realized that after not being able to travel as much as I had prior to daughter's arrival, I don't have many answers on the forums anymore. Now, I log on every day and read most of the US/Airline/Cruise posts, but don't have much to contribute,as my knowledge is atleast 4 yrs old and probably no longer accurate.
Rant: I can't follow Mikemos' idea from last week's FFRR and "take ownership" to vote out all of the greed at XOM. Gas costing almost 300/mo(and rising) I'd have to forgo my grocery allotment for the week to buy a share..no can do with a 3 year old to feed. Not being sarcastic,either..I wish somebody could step in and fix this mess!
Rant/Rave: Daughter flying to NJ Sat for a week with my sis to visit our family...my crying jags have already begun and telling myself it's a good trip for both of us isn't helping me much..
Hope the news will be happy for everyone this week!

Rave: Colourful tulips
Rant: I'm not familiar with the Lamacil ad but some tv commercials are really reaching with a guy giving birth and another's head falling off. Please. The marketing is not very effective when we immediately change the channel to something (anything) else.

Oldmyst,
Don't wait to go to the Podiatrist. Go now. I was having heel pain and then spent a day walking all over NYC. The next morning I couldn't put any weight on my heel. I went to the Dr. the next day. Heel spur and planta faciitis. Got shots in my heel---OUCH!! The sooner it's treated, the less inflamed it will become.
Rave: Three weeks later, I can finally walk without pain.
Rant: The heel still hurts first thing in the AM.
Rave: The weather here has been FANTASTIC!

Curious, Jorr! :-?
Rave: Much needed rain, glorious rain!
Rave: Our cat who likes to cuddle during a thunderstorm even when it's 2:30 in the morning.
Rave: Working on my free skate program for my next USFSA test with a piece from the movie Gladiator.

Thanks for the nice welcome, AnnMarie!!
Rave: I'm home from my trip!!
Rant: I'm home from my trip..
Rave: I had a great time. I saw all the usual spots in London and a few new ones. I saw Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot, both fantastic shows I highly recommend. Then I moved on to Madeira, which is a Portugese island sorta near the coast of Northern Africa. I attended a wedding there, and it was lovely. Madeira is the most magical place on earth, I SO want to go back!! One week ago today I was with some new friends on a private taxi tour of the island. And today I'm sitting behind a desk feeling sad. It's not fair, I WANNA GO BACK!!
Rave: My dog was overjoyed to see my when I got home, and so was DH.
Rave: DH has made a full recovery from his gall bladder surgery.
Rant: I just learned 10 minutes ago that my sister was in the hospital while I was away. I don't know what's wrong, but Dad said in his email she's out of the hospital and much better now. I will call her ASAP.
Rave: My sister didn't allow anyone to call me while I was on vacation because she didn't want to worry me.
I'll get a trip report and pics out soon, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Happy weekend, all.

Sadly, I have to start today off with a RANT:
Last night on attempting to shut our garage door (automatic) the whole thing popped several hinges right out of the track and, b/c it kept going, completely bent the frame. It is now stuck half way up, immoveable, with my car inside. Cant wait to see how much this sets us back (not to mention looking like major white trash in the meantime!)
RAVE: My daughter had her 2 year well check and everything is good. Strangely she is still extremely tall and her rough estimate for adult height is almost 6 feet!!! I'm 5'7" and DH is barely 5'10"!?
and one more RAVE: At 14 weeks pregnant I've gained about 4 pounds. Since it feels like 40 I'm pretty happy about that number.

Hi Everyone!
Oldmyst- Enjoy your time with Prince. Hope your heel feels better.
LoveItaly - Hope finger ok -that is really strange.
klr- Your travel time will come again - and you do have things to contribute. Plus, with all you have going on, let others give to you for now. It is hard, but your daughter will have a great trip.
P_M - Welcome back. Can't wait to hear about your trip.
AnnMarie - That is so cool - I didn't know you skated.
Ani - Sorry about that garage door
And, try not to worry about the height thing...it is too early to tell for sure and worrying won't change it regardless (I should follow my own advice as I worry about everything with my kids ;-) )
Rave: Leaving in 4 hours for weekend in DC with 8 high school friends. We are arriving in from all over the country to celebrate the year we all turn "40." Among the 9 of us, we are leaving behind 9 husbands and 21 kids in order to have this girls weekend.\
/
Rant: DH threw his back out this week and has been in a lot of pain.
Rave: He is starting to feel better.
Rant: Older son was sick with a sinus infection and chest cold this week - crummy to have a sick high schooler - he felt miserable, but had lots of work to do.
Rave: Younger son competing in state tournament for Destination Imagination this weekend after winning region in March. This is the 4th year in a row his team has gone to States which is a huge honor. He works so hard and I am so proud!
Rant: For the first time ever, I will miss the competition due to the long-scheduled girls weekend. But, it is OK, I know.
Rave: Made reservations for the Last Supper and the Secret Itineraries tour at the Doge's Palace - will be there during our June trip to Italy! It is so fun planning and preparing for a trip.

Jorr--gross. I've always hated feet, and that commercial is perhaps one of the most vile things I've seen on TV. Ick.
Oldmyst--sorry about your heel. That is definitely one of the worst places on your body to be sore and hurt.
klr--I know what you mean about not really being able to help as much as everyone else does. I used to go everywhere--in and out of the U.S. But now it's maybe one or two trips in the states a year. But I'm figuring that is better than nothing at all!
AnnMarie--hope your free skate is going well! That is one thing that I really wish I could do. Alas, I have no balance. I can barely keep myself upright when I'm walking!
P_M--so glad your trip went well. It is nice to "hear" you smile.
Now it's time for my rants...I wish I had more raves...
Rant: My upstairs A/C is out. Now I've got to find someone who want charge me an arm and a leg to just come out, much less fix it!
Rant: My security system went out.
Rant: My phone went dead.
Rant: While my phone was down, the nursing home in which my dad is staying called to say that they had to take him to the E/R. We've been doing our standardized testing at school this week, so I haven't had the chance to go visit, so I only found out yesterday (2 days later) that he's been in the hospital. Since my mom passed away last month, he's been really depressed, but physically he has seemed well. Apparently, he has suffered kidney failure, and now he also has a type of pneumonia due to improper handling at the nursing facility. He is in ICU and is on a respirator right now. I am barely finishing up with all of the paperwork from my mom's death, and now I'm having to watch my dad deteriorate only a month later. It is tough.
Rave: My son keeps making me smile at the most unexpected times. Big rave.
Take care, Fodorites, and please say a little prayer. Have a blessed weekend.

Jorr, when you were little, were you the one always getting in trouble for eating and leaving food in a room other than the kitchen?......is your insurance agent killing you with his fees, hence the undertaker connection? .....did you say no to the last solicitation from the local firemen's association?......or more importantly, what did you eat before bedtime !!
This might be worth looking up in one of those dream books -
Rave: Girlfriend's son gave her one of his kidneys,
both mother and son are recovering well and it doesn't get much better than that !
Rave: My Maltese had a little surgery yesterday, and even at age 12 came out of anesthesia quickly and is as frisky as ever this morning.
Rave: Countdown: 3 dys to girls trip w/ 7 friends to celebrate one gals 50th down in Marco Island/Naples !! (the baby of the group)
Rant: I wish Oldmyst lived near me with the love of dogs, I SO spoil my good friends who lovingly care for my baby when I am away, - your friend may forget some things, but just by the fact she trusts you with her baby you know she appreciates you.
Rant: and seetheworld if you come on here, you will get this one -
Son will be in India studying next year. Wants us to come during his break on Dec 15 for at least 7-10 days.....daughter (24, NYC) wouldn't know if she could go until last minute....this could mean 3 of us in India for Christmas and daughter not with us (never happened before, don't know how mom would do) -...or us being home and son being alone in India....don't know how mom will do with that either....
a minor rant in the scheme of life, and I am thankful this is my biggest rant of the week -
hope a great week lies ahead for everyone.

Rant: my mom was diagnosed on Monday with uterine cancer (adenocarcinoma). She had a CT yesterday and the results will not be ready until next Monday so we still dont know the scope of the problem...dont even know where to start researching.
At the very least a hysterctomy will be scheduled...Her gynecological oncologist appointment is not until May 10th!!!! This is supposedly the best doctor in the area and he is booked solid (aside from being the only one supported by her single-hospital insurance).
Surgery in May will put her recovery period smack in the middle of my sister's wedding in early June. Mom wants to delay until after the wedding!!!! I guess a decision cannot be made until after the results are in and we talk to the doctor.
If surgery is delayed until after the wedding then I dont know if I can(or want) go on my Switzerland trip in July.
This vacation was scheduled to celebrate DH's big number birthday with his family in Switzerland.
mini rave - the doctor said that this was a 'good' cancer to have and should be easily treated...we are all praying that it was detected early enough!
