Good thoughts for JJ5 and Divingaggie. I hope you're both able to get the rest you need.

I'm sorry for your loss Bennnie.

Rave: It's the last weekend of college wrestling, and the last weekend until next season that my husband will be gone (he coaches).

Rave: Daughter's second birthday yesterday. Two years ago today we had a one day old newborn, and we didn't know a thing about her or her personality. It's been fun getting to know her the last two years; she's such an interesting little girl!

Rave: I have a cool new coat en route to me from REI. Hurrah for the dividend check!

Rave: Not very many rants in my life, and all the rants are very minor.

Rant: Jor...I hadn't heard that either. How utterly repulsive!

rant/rave: our grandson had tubes put in his ears this morning. At 7 mos of age he's already been "under the knife" more times (twice) than my 60+ year old husband!! Hopefully this will be an end to all the infections and congestion he's had non-stop.

kenm...I'm sorry for what has happened. It has touched the techie in our family too. His degree is MIS...what does one do if they keep shipping those jobs overseas? Get a new degree? Boo hiss. Good luck in your search. It will work out!

diving aggie...hospice was such a blessing with my Mom. They will be able to take some of the load off you and their fabulous attitude will guide you through this step by step. Not an easy process in any case, but they were a godsend!

otto...freezing doesn't work. They are still to easy too bite into. The only recourse is total abstinence.

rave: This absolutely gorgeous Texas weather we've been having! Keeping fingers and toes crossed that it doesn't end, as we have friends coming to stay with us from England next week and they want to tour and are in need of a sun fix!

Happy weekend all!

divingaggie, I'm sorry to read about your mom. My dad was taken care of by hospice--can't say enough wonderful things about the care they provide. The people are saints.

P_M, only 5 weeks left? I better get a move on lifting those weights and getting into shape since I'll be the one carrying your luggage, right?!? ;-) Sorry to read about your mom's cousin.

Ethel, muscle doesn't weigh more than fat (a pound is a pound) but it is more dense than fat--you're gaining muscle, good for you!

Rant: Being sick all week long--I HATE being sick amp;

Rant / Rave: DH was assigned a position that will keep us in San Antonio for three more years. While I was secretly hoping for a change we have a great life here that I'm not quite ready to leave.

Rant: Summer heat is already here.

kenm - sorry about your job loss. That must be hard to deal with. Red Sox look good this year. Hopefully you'll have a better job before you know it and will still take your roadtrip.

divingaggie - your story sounds so familar. I turned to a similar board as a means of escape while caring for my dad. I'm glad you find solace here. Its good to take a break from the real world. Hang it there - there are others here who are also helping family members with cancer or other medical issues.

annmarie and malesherbes, I have heard also that hospice is supposed to be great, but I've had more problems than anything with this one. One time we had a distress call, and the nurse didn't show up until 3 1/2 hours later. That isn't normal, is it? I just don't have any experience with it at all, so I can't compare it to anything.

Agree with jorr's rant. BTW, Rev. Phelps and his clan are protesting the soldiers' funerals, not because of their position vis-à-vis the Morality of War, but because the soldiers died in the name of a country that doesn't round up and summarily execute homosexuals.

According to that Church, that's the bigger sin. I guess in their eyes, the soldiers should be marching through the streets of the US executing gays and lesbians on sight.

And we that live here in the US think we have made such progress in civil rights and equality. We should be striving on "acceptance" and not just "tolerance"-- but we can't even get to that point. And that's so depressing....

divingaggie, that was not our experience, no. If anything we were overwhelmed by their responsiveness and the attention provided to my dad. It's been a few years--if I remember correctly there was a "case manager" assigned to us--have you tried calling that person or someone else in charge to see what can be done about the slow resonse time?

I should have been more clear about why this church in Topeka is protesting soldier's funerals.

Here is a quote from an Anoka MN funeral from one of the protesters which might explain it a little... "God hates gays and their enablers and so therefore God hates the U.S. military." They had picket signs at the funeral which Praised road-side bombs. The 23 year old soldier was killed by a road-side bomb. They also claim that all soldiers killed in Iraq will go to hell for fighting against God because God "hates" gays.

The group which organizes themselves as a Baptist church became best known when they picketed a teen-ager's funeral in Wyoming who was murdered because he was gay with "Matt, go to hell" picket signs.

Pastor Fred Phelps and his gang of thugs also has a web site where they recruit members to thier church and spew their hate.

Steviegene--Rant or rave???

Sorry to hear about the health struggles of so many and those of you that have recently lost someone close to you.

Big rant on that Phelps guy. People like him and those that follow his ideas give humans a bad name.

Bennie--I know you love NYC as well. It was really cool taking my daughter AND her friend. Frequently she and I go so it was more fun for her this time (although we always have a good time). They skated at Rock Center and just really acted like sill 14 year old girls.

Rave: My kids are working hard in preparing for a quiz so I am using my time to catch up on this board.

Rave: 14 year olds in general. They really make me laugh--well most of the time!

The things those horrific protestors say so demonstrates their ignorance... God never hates.

p.s. I am telling you, I think I would fall apart if one of those protestors showed up at my kid's funeral... I cried when I saw it on the news. I feel so bad for those families.

Well done bikers that are protecting.

Rave: jorr found something we all agree on -- those freaks give a bad name to free speech.

Rave: Statia, a great way to look at your misfortune w/ your Mom's wheelchair.

Another Rant: the guy who was let out of jail for more testing so that he could give his sick son his kidney, and he took off without helping his son. Makes you sick for the human race.

Rave: the Oscars on Sunday. I'm rooting for Brokeback Mountain -- Man, I loved that movie.

steviegene- hee hee...is that a rant or a rave or a little of both? Either way, good luck.
AnnMarieC- Muscle actually does weigh more than fat. A pound is a pound but if you have a mass of muscle that is the same size (volume) as a mass of fat the muscle mass will weigh more than the same size hunk of fat. Hope that makes sense...
Girl Scout cookie saga... I have 750 students per week in grades K-3 and I buy a box of cookies from each one that asks. I swear every girl in my school is a Scout!
This year I decided not to buy ANY
Thin Mints or Samoas because I will eat all of them. I only ordered Do Si Dos and Tagalongs for my family. Didn't matter, I took a sudden liking to both.
I've thought about freezing them but I swear I'd probably try to dig them out of the freezer and chip a tooth on one in desperate times!

Actually Ann Marie C, I guess we're really saying the same thing in two ways... disregard... don't mean to nitpick (although the nurse had to pick nits in one of my K classes yesterday and I itched the rest of the morning!!!)

annmarie--I've talked with the case manager, and they are trying to make up for the bad first week. Hopefully it will get better asap.

I forgot (don't know how) one huge rave--Spring Break is coming up in a week!!! Yea!!! No high school students and crazy mean assistant principal to deal with for a whole week. And DH will be coming back in 8 days.

Another rave: Great Texas weather, although it's supposed to get rainy this weekend.

Bennnie--sorry about your uncle. One of my favorite people in the world is my aunt. I wouldn't know what to do if I lost her.
