I haven't read the Pyrex link but I thought that Pyrex and glass had to be used at below 325 degrees in the oven to be sure it doesn't shatter.

Pink chicken? My goof was in the opposite direction. Once I cooked turkey legs for HOURS because they just didn't look done. OMG! That was 17 years ago and I still hear cackling from DH if he thinks about it. They bounced. Boing! Boing! Boing!

amwosu: I just don't think that can be correct, as most casseroles require 350o.

The bowl that shattered was a fairly recent purchase, but I have 2 glass pyrex mixer bowls that came with my Sunbeam Mix Master a hundred years ago that have stood the test of time with making pralines in the microwave...I had tried it in this (now broken) bowl, but it just wasn't up for it!

The French White corningware lid should have held up, and DID for a year or two of regular use (the microwave was what is was 'billed' for.

Remember the Visions corningware? I went looking for a replacement (dropped one)a couple years back, and was told they don't sell in the US anymore...only in Europe...now what's THAT about?

CAPH52 and others: I have NOT had a corningware bowl explode, only a glass lid of theirs.

The recommended cover for microwaving is presently waxed paper, if not the 'proper' lid (instead of plastic and NOT paper towels.

OWJ: This is changing the subject, but I was wondering if there was any news on the DH's potential job?

Hey Belle!!
OWJ2 recently got a promotion at his current job but was still pursuing that other offer b/c ultimately it meant more $$. Things with the restaurant partnership are on hold (building delays and other stuff unrelated to his qualifications) and OWJ2 said he just doesn't think the timing's right...Guess that's life...The good thing is I have him home nights and weekends

Hope you and the clan are doing well! If you guys come up to Atlanta for a visit, hope you'll let us know!!

hi owj...and osb, would you please send me your praline recipe? I have tried them in the microwave and it didn't work...but that was a long time ago so I may get brave and try again.

rave: Have the grandgirls with me for the first time since Christmas.

rave: Last weekend of hunting season. That means I will have a husband on weekends now.

rant: Last weekend of hunting season. That means I will have a husband on weekends now.

My gracious-pyrex and cd's flying everywhere ! I'm glad everyone is
unharmed ! I've had my topaz pyrex since
forever and I love it, yet I don't cook brownies anymore (I missed the chocolate gene at the conception handout)

jorr, you must drop by and use my shredder, it does cd's, credit cards
and entire unopened envelopes of
CC solicitations.
~sigh~
I think I love it more than my pyrex...

razzle: That sounds like a garbage disposal! LOL! ...and I suppose you're still making payments!

Well, nights and weekends are important, and worth alot! I know the feeling though, my DH went through somehthing similar a couple years ago...and I think he did the right thing passing up the 'opportunity'.

iceeu2: You have mail. And I'm so glad you're getting some time with those cut girls! Give 'em an extra hug for me!

Actually some shredders do destroy CD's and believe it or not the shredders do not cost that much. My daughter bought one at Sams Club..imagine everyone sells them now.

But it is a wonder anyone is alive with all the explosions we have had!

If you scratch a CD with a knife or scissors, would that be enough to destroy it?

Just a thought
