Four Seasons Houston or The Lancaster?
I'll be in Houston for two nights in the late spring to attend an opera. I've narrowed my hotel choices to The Lancaster or The Four Seasons. I've booked a King Room at The Lancaster and a Deluxe King (Does anyone know if the Poolside rooms are nicer?) at The Four Seasons. I've never been to Houston before so any feedback would be appreciated. FYI, I'll be without a car so hope to have a variety of food options and "things to walk to" in the immediate vicinity. Thanks!

Both are VERY nice. The Lancaster is a smaller, boutique hotel, but is literally across the street from the Wortham so great location for the opera. It's restaurant is also very good.
Don't know if FS' poolside rooms are nicer. It's a few blocks from the Wortham, but still pretty close. It's restaurant is also excellent. It's just a block or so from the new park downtown, Discovery Green. Really nice space with a couple of nice restaurants as well. The FS is also across the street from dozens of shops and restaurants in the Houston Center.
There are plenty of bars, restaurants, etc along Main St - walkable from both hotels.
Either choice would be quite good - just depends on location and whether you prefer smaller v larger.
Also, you're a quick ride on light rail to some of the museums on South Main (Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural Science/Cottrell Butterfly Center, Contemporary Arts Museum, etc)

flyer - if you like seafood, would suggest Massa's. 2 locations downtown: one is across the street from the 4S; the other is across from the Hyatt Regency (original location and a little bit dressier decor). But food at both is very good (some of the best gumbo in town IMO).

We stayed at the Lancaster for an anniversary when we went to see Wicked. They had great service and the rooms had a boutiquey charm to them. They even drove us to and from the theater in a town car since it was cold out. It has sort of a historic charming feel to it.

Thanks everyone. Decision made. I spoke with the folks at the Four Seasons and was able to book an Executive Suite for only $20 per night more than the deluxe room st The Lancaster would have cost. That combined with the Houston Center being across the street, a pool if the weather is good and complimentary car to the Wortham Center made the choice an easy one.
