If you don't like them you can get the Google toolbar which blocks all pop-ups.
It's also handy for searching.

Another search toolbar (that has a popup blocker) is Dogpile. I deinstalled Google because their paid-placement of results was getting in the way of usable information. Dogpile categorizes its results, letting you burrow better, as it were.

Another option is the free version of Pop-Up Stopper. Go here: http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html . I used this for years--it's delightful.

JandaO - I'm with you! I'm will to pay a monthly fee to Fodors.com if it means no ads. So....what do you think is a fair price??

Very annoying! An ad on each page not enough? How far can it go?

Hmmm. I don't have any pop-ups. Never have with Fodors. Maybe it has to do with the ISP one has?

No ads here either..neither pop-ups nor banners at the top or bottom of page. I've got Norton Internet Security which includes an ad blocking program. I can turn them on if I wish...but who wishes? I love this program! On sites such as Morningstar which is ad intensive, I've got a blank area down the side of the page where the ad is. Great for those of us stuck with a dial-up connection!

Statia...welcome home!! Did you get your twang back? <)

Thanks Olive! Oh yeah....it came back with a vengance during the course of two weeks. Especially when my sister and I stayed up late catching up. The side trip to Bandera didn't help, either.....ha!

I see banner ads on Fodors, and certainly some around the borders of the home page, etc. But I have never had a popup ad on Fodors and I view it probably at least 5 times week. I have used a variety of ISPs during this period (verio, earthlink, AOL), and now my company has their own internet connection, and I have never had a popup ad on any of them. I do not have a popup blocker on any ISP, either.

Maybe people who aren't registered get them or something? Or maybe they are only at certain times of day, who knows, but I've never had one.

Fodors ads on the banners or homepage don't bother me at all, I would not be willing to pay a fee to get rid of them because I don't even notice them much (I don't usually go through the homepage, though). It's not a good idea to introduce fees for a service that depends on a lot of new/casual posters.

I want to thank Bookhall!!!
I have a brand new 'puter, popup ads were driving me crazy, the free popup stopper is downloaded and working beautifully. People, check it out!

P.S. Anybody know how to PERMANENTLY delete/uninstall "Spyblast"? I can't seem to get rid of it.

I use Norton Internet Security which blocks all pop-ups. Love it! I also use the free spyware blocker/cleaner, Ad-Aware, also terrific.

Joan: Removing Spyblast is a bit tricky. I had it about 6-8 months ago. One place that tells how to do it manually is here: http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner...st/index.phtml . However, I suggest you get some knowledgeable help. It involves tinkering with the Registry, and that's no place for a novice.

My recollection, for what it's worth, is that I might have picked up while hunting for books on some UK sites.

Just run the current version of Netscape instead of Internet Explorer. It does a great job of managing popups and cookies. You can set each site the way you want.

Thanks bookhall...I share my computer with two teenagers, so I just blame every problem on them anyway. I definitely won't "tinker" though - I've gone down that road before, and there's no going back!
