Fort Lauderdale - Help Please!!
Hi,
I am planning a family trip to Fort Lauderdale this summer. I need tips on best restaurants (nothing fancy) best hotels (nice ones) and some of your favorite things to do and see. We love the beach and love to spend time together. Also, any tips on parasailing or jet ski rents. AND, does anyone know anything about beach chair rentals. Should we rent or buy some chairs when we get there. We will be flying in so bringing them with us is not an option. Basically, we love life and love to vacation together as a family!!! We will have two adults and two teenagers. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. I noticed on an earlier post someone mentioned the Bahia Mar. Does anyone know anything about this place? Thanks so much for all your help. Pamela

take the Water Taxi down the InterCoastal! For $16 pp per day, you could get off & on many times. We left from the most Northern pt. and got a tour along the way on the Million $$ homes, yachts, history of the area. We got off at Las Olas, shopped, walked awhile, got on the Taxi (ALWAYS call first or you might not catch one as they don't have regular stops/times) went to the Marina, had an early dinner, and rode back to our car. We ate at the "Original Pancake House" a couple of times for wonderful breakfasts!

Pamela,
We spent Memorial day weekend at the Bahia Del Mar(Radisson). It has a view of both the beach as well as the marina. Pretty at night. The hotel is in a good location and is walking distance to Las Olas blvd. Word of advice before going swimming at the beach; ask the lifeguards if "sea lice" is a problem daily. We encountered this problem on our last day. Ablue flag by the lifeguard stand indicates that sea lice are present in ocean. Accomodations were great. A must see is Sawgrass Mills outlet, approx. 20 minute drive.
Have fun!

I'm not sure, but I think I've run into those nasty sea lice a time or two. I remember coming out of the water feeling like I have been attacked by mosquitos. I ended up with a few mosquito-like bites on my feet and legs. Does this sound like a sea lice experience?
As for the beach chairs, definitely buy them. We fly to Florida beaches often and decided long ago that it is definitely worth the price. Go to Walgreens or Eckerds (drug stores) for the best kind - about $12 each. Don't bother with K-Mart or WalMart - I've never found them there. When you leave, just give them to anyone on the beach who is struggling to read their book while laying on a towel.
