For those who have been to Lanai

If you take the ferry across from Maui, how do you drop off your car rental? Or when you return to Maui, how do you get a car? Also, did you rent a car from your hotel in Lanai or where did you get it?
Thanks!

Reply to Ashley24, there are several public parking lots $-) in Lahaina where you can leave your rental car. If you call the ferry they can give you directions to parking lots.

When you arrive at the dock on Lana`i, there are shuttles to take you directly to your hotel or to a car rental agency (i.e. Dollar)but be sure to arrange the shuttle for your car rental in advance, if you are not staying at a hotel .

So that means we will be paying for two car rentals at the same time? No way around that?

I guess it depends on how close you are staying to Lahaina, whether cab fares versus daily rental car rate + parking is more costly. If you are staying at a hotel you might inquire if they have a courtesy shuttle

When we go to Lanai we return our rental car right in Honokawai(?). It's really right before the New Westin resort on the right hand side of the road. We drop off our rental there and they drive us to the dock.

Make sure when making your reservation for your car you state that you want to return your car at this location. It will give you a list of drop off locations. Pick the one in that area. I think it might be Lahaina or Honokawai.

How long are you on Lanai. You don't really need a rental car to visit between resorts and Lanai City. The shuttle which you are paying for anyway is prompt on the half hour. But I understand it would offer you a bit of freedom. You might just consider renting a jeep for a day - the eco tour company is the best - upgraded wheels, better service, nicer jeeps.

As far as Maui, we bit the bullet a few years ago and parked in Lahaina. fivestar seems to have the best solution. I would also call the conceirge at Manele and ask what they recommend.

Good luck - oh and Aloooooha JohnD!!! wooof!

this is the place to call for jeep rental! They blow dollar out of the water as far as jeeps go.
