for iceeu2...from the Left Coast
I tried to reply to your Dick Clark post but interestingly enough, the "reply" option was not available!
So to keep this travel related, I'm posting from the mountain time zone to your eastern!
And I want you know I loved your post and probaly wouldn't have watched the show had I not seen it...so thank you!! And to the nay sayers, just don't open a post if it doesn't appeal!
Iceeu2....you are one of my very favorite posters and I love what you have to say about everything! Keep it up! And a big Thank You from the intermountain west! Your are the BEST!

The thing is, where else and to whom do we speak of things in common? These forums have created bonds and it isn't the end of the world to have a thread that takes a personal, non-travel turn - is it? We live in a country and we share experiences....and once in awhile it's kind of nice to recognize the ties that (also) bind us.
My friends and I raced home from different schools to meet at one home and watch bandstand in the 50's! (now you know too much...)

What's strange is how so many people don't understand the concept of TRAVEL talk.
What's also strange is that the possible reason a thread was frozen eludes you and you attempt to continue in a new thread. DUH! maybe 'cause it's not TRAVEL related????? Imagine that!

Half of the rb posts I checked were to chastise posters for not using this board correctly or to lecture a newcomer.
IMO, if you are only posting TRAVEL ADVICE only about half the time, you aren't following rb's "rules". How do you spell "double standards"?

Thanks daydreamin. To Gekko, rb and others it never was my intent to give away the outcome of the Emmy's. I was playing on the computer, saw Dick Clark and it really touched me. I only wanted to share with my Fodor's friends.
You know, gekko and rb, I certainly could have made that post travel related by saying....how far would you travel to see that class act, Dick Clark? But, I posted inappropriately, so be it. Gekko, I'm not sure what I did for you to get a burr up your butt for me, but you have always been less than nice.
Friends, I recently had a post frozen and most everything deleted about Dandi Ho. Now, that was a serious post with an appropriate question. Since we are TRAVELLING to Kauai next spring, I really did want to know if she did indeed still design clothing and if she had a retail establishment on the island. People started making fun of her name and saying things which I found very humorous! I got my answer from AuntieM. I was not offended in the least about all the "fun" people were having from that thread. As a matter of fact, it made me feel good to laugh.
This past weekend has been so emotional for most Americans, myself included. It started out with a friend's death, then sistahlou's Katrina thread, then jetset's trip report(it touched me so much that mat named the new gekkos after jet and BayouGal..and, it also touched me that those 3 have formed such a remarkable friendship...and, they met right here on Fodor's), then Lois' thread about "Do It Now", then the plane crash in Kentucky. So, when Dick Clark came on last night, that too was emotional and all I wanted to do was share that moment with all of you.
Thanks to Fodor's and some of the "non travel" threads and banter, I have cultivated one of the most precious friendships I have ever had the opportunity to share. Haven't met that sweetheart in person yet, but I will some day. I always look forward to his almost daily emails to me. Sometimes we exchange emails one on one, but mostly include our other "friends" that we have met right here on Fodor's.
Enough of the crying. I'm sure this thread and especially my response will be deleted when Gekko and rb report me to the powers at Fodor's, But, you know what? I don't care...I've said my piece and it feels good.
Mahalo to you my daydreamin friend.

Well starzville, you must be as pathetically poor at math as you are at following guidelines. I just looked at my last 50 and find 32 posts travel related and have given advice/opinion, 9 where I bring up the approprateness of the thread, and 10 which while not exactly travel related answered questions about this board or "lectured a newcomer" (oh- sorry if I suggested a more descriptive title or the ability to click on a name ... doesn't sound exactly like lectureing to me). Why don't you twist the facts a little more, starr?

" only wanted to share with my Fodor's friends" ... use email. You should have your friends' email addresses. I do. And I come here for travel talk, not friends. Not "family". I drove to Saratoga over the weekend to shingle a roof ... travel? I don't think so!
"This past weekend has been so emotional for most Americans, myself included." -- oh boo hoo hoo. Go see your clergyman or shrink. This is a travel board, not a 12 step program or a grief counseling center. I can't imagine why one doesn't write privately to those "most precious friendships .. (they had an) .. opportunity to share"
"when Gekko and rb report me to the powers at Fodor's" - I've complained to Fodors ONCE - about the picky eating. I make my complaints HERE in plain sight. It's MY comments that have been frequently edited out of threads because thin-skinned whiners cannot handle the truth.

"And now just look at all this support for iceeu2." .. It matters little how much "support" icceu2 gets from fellow klatchers; Might does not make right. I will remain vigilant in keeping this board focused on discussing travel.
In each case before now I have complained about the message, not the messenger. You coffee klatchers in return spit your venom at me, personally. Hereforth I shall reply in kind.

boy I hope that you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I am new to the Fodor's boards, and actually appriciate the "banter" between folks. It shows that people are people all over the world, and isn't that why most of us travel?? (to find other cultures) So I'll have to disagree that this post is not travel related. If I wanted to travel to the U.S. I would have a better understanding, and an up to date appriciation for the culture I am going to be visiting... ;p

Oh beHAVE L'Italy!
Please let the record show that rb and I have agreed on at least one thing!
BUT...I never click on one that doesn't interest me or look "coffee clatchish".
Let he who is without "kliqueish" throw the first flame!
