Yes! Yes! Sooke Harbour House. I saw the title of this thread and opened it to recommend Sooke Harbour House and was delighted to see that two other Fodorites have been there. It's an awesome place. Perfectly appointed. Delicious breakfast (included) and dinner. The breakfast yogurt even had a little red heart drawn in it with red jam.

Just read that it ranked as the 9th best hotel (though it's not really a hotel) in the world by a travel magazine (Travel and Leisure?).

Go to www.google.com and type in Sooke Harbour House. They have a great webpage that shows each room, so you can pick the one you want. We went off-season (April) and it wasn't expensive at all. You'll need a car.

Let us know what you decide.

Wow. What a great thread. Lots of great ideas in areas I would not have considered. I guess that is why I posted the question int the first place!

I have to admit I'm intrigued by the suggestions in BC. Is a flight from DFW to the Pacific NW too long for a weekend getaway? Perhaps not; those suggestions would be a homerun for sure.

I'm guessing Dallas to BC would be at least a five hour flight. Probably too far for a long weekend.

If BC is too far, try the Stephanie Inn south of Cannon Beach. Romantic oceanview rooms with jacuzzis, fireplaces, and balconies. Wine tastings in the afternoon, good food. Cannon Beach is wonderful for poking about on the beach. Portland, OR, has some excellent shopping (try the Real Mother Goose for top quality work by NW artisans). They also have a (small) branch at the airport and FYI, all merchants at the Portland airport have signed agreements not to charge more than they would at their stores in town.
