I have several friendships that I've forged thru Fodors, but have only actually met one in person.
I recently helped someone plan a day trip with their family to my island, so it was nice to finally meet in person after emailng back and forth during the planning process. Funny thing is that he accidentally ran into my husband first and realized who he was after briefly talking.
There are many more Fodorites that I would love to meet up with in person, as well. Perhaps someday....

Yes, you can call it conventions I guess, now and then you can read about "get-togethers". I've been to the San Francisco once, it was really nice to put faces behind some lines, and I'm looking forward to the next one. So plan your next SF vacation accordingly

cigalechanta,
What's he like? He's thoughtful, caring, considerate, polite, loving, courteous, friendly, personable, happy, cheerful, sensitive, helpful, appreciative, and he makes a great wine!!!
When I get back from Tuscany in late September I'm going to try to organize a NY/NJ GTG sometime in late October when Tracy from SA is in town. Looking at Saturday, 30 October, for lunch at a restaurant in NJ that is a BYOB (I'll bring the wine). Hope you'll be able to make it -- you too, HappyCheesehead.

....and he is a mind reader. He took the words right out of my mouth! Budman is a terrific guy - interested and interesting! He is helpful, kind, brave and true.... oops - sorry - think that is a boy scout.
Budman - you are breaking my heart - I cannot believe I am going to miss a GTG just two weeks after I am going to be in NY - just my luck.

I have become friends with two very nice people on Fodors. We have not met, but have exchanged photos of our trips. Next year we might even meet each other, which will be fun.
I like the people I have met on Fodors and enjoy the posts.

I've met several people from fodors, including the famous Kal and Elvira (not on the same trip). My whole family posts here, although I'm the most regular one. And when i finally met Kalena, we found that she is connected to my family in a couple of ways! Same for lcuy--AND she's connected to kalena. It's a small small small small world indeed!
Kal pointed something interesting out to me: When we have Fodors GTGs, usually all the really nice people turn out. You don't have to worry about the trolls crashing, because they obviously want to stay anonymous.
