Flight booking info please!

Hi!

I was wondering if I need to book my flight now to come to New York over Spring Break, April 2003? I usually booked with a travel agency, but I am doing it myself this time. Do prices generally fluctuate a lot over a period of months? I want to fly Midwest Express out of Milwaukee. Thanks in advance for your help!

Holly, prices certainly do fluctuate, but that's not going to be an incredibly pricey ticket with a Saturday night stay under normal circumstances. Are you coming up with a fare of less than $275? You should be able to get it done for that and often, for somewhat less. If it's Spring Break for a lot of people in your area at that time, it can be worth locking in early.

Thanks for your reply!
I was getting a price of 250.00. I would be flying out on a Saturday.
I guess I will book that as it seems pretty cheap.
Another question!! Should I give my credit card # to an online hotel reservation company? They wont let me call the hotel directly which makes me a little nervous.

Use only reputable companies to book your hotel. I suggest you check prices on www.biddingfortravel.com and then bid on Priceline. You can get some great prices for 3 and 4 star hotels.

Don't want you to lose the price but I as wondering if you should wait until January to book the flight, it just seems that going into the holiday season prices seem higher. Re: on-line booking for hotels, I do not usually like to do credit cards on line but am always very happy with www.hoteldiscounts.com Good luck (am flying midwest express myself to nyc in november).

With recent changes in airline policy, you are probably buying a non-refundable ticket. That used to mean you could change dates or apply amount to another trip if your plans changed. Be sure to check airline policy about what happens if your plans change.

As far as hotels and on-line credit card - tht is the way most, if not all, of them work. People have different levels of comfort about giving credit card number out on-line. I have done it many times with no problem. You are not responsible for charges if someone steals your credit card info (make sure it is a credit card and not debit card if you are using it online), but it can be a real big pain to straighten it out if something goes wrong - but tht is no different than in person.

Thanks, everyone. Good advice. I have never flown Midwest Express, or soon to be Midwest Airlines, but I hear it is nice. Have a nice November trip to NYC!

Midwest Express MKE-NYC prices don't fluctuate all that much. We fly that route usually once or twice a year. It's the only non-stop for that route. I also suggest priceline for the best hotel deal, but wait until maybe a month or 2 before the trip to do that.

Holly, $250 seems rather expensive for a flight from Milwaukee to New York City. I would probably wait a little longer before booking. You should be able to get a fare in the $150 range roundtrip fpr that itineray.

I disagree that you can reliably find that fare in the $150 range; particularly if it is a widespread spring break time period from MKE. If it was Chicago, it would be different and I would agree. If you have specific dates/times that you're shooting for, it may not happen for $150.

You should also consider and weigh that with Midwest Express, you are getting a substantially different class of service than an economy seat on a garden variety carrier. With Midwest, you will be flying with what is hands-down the very best domestic carrier in terms of your flight experience. It is all 2x2 business class seating. Plug that into the equation.

Wow...Newark is my favorite NYC-area airport. The airtrain makes getting to and from the airport almost a pleasure. LGA and JFK are the nightmares in my opinion, especially because of traffic to get there and back.
