Fleet Week, Hotels, Tours etc.

First of all thanks to all who replied with advice on my previous post.

Persistance does pay off! I unded up with the Waldorf Astoria through Hotwire for $102per night for the first 3 nights, and thanks to postings here, the Marriott Marquis for 1 night at $185 and 2 nights for $139 each. I am truly happy! On a Navy income, I still managed to get some pretty nice places!

I am now looking for info on Fleet Week itself. Last year it was over the 4th of July and this year it is over Memorial Day. Is this a big thing for the city? Parades, etc??

Also is the NBC studio tour and the Stock exchange tours any good?

It's not that big a deal if you're talking about NY. Of course, if you're in the Navy, then maybe it is a big deal!

Memorial Day parades, unfortunately, are a thing of the past. There may be a small local parade in the outer boroughs. The biggest event during Fleet Week is the opening of the ships for visits. Lines are huge for people taking advantage of this event.
Waldorf price is exceptional and the Marriort $139 price isn't too bad. The Marriott is in the heart of Times Sqaure and it is less than 20 minute walk to the river. To get to the river from the Waldorf take a crosstown bus on 49th St.
I think you will find plenty of things to do during your visit to NYC.

P.S.: The reason why you got such great hotel rates is that Memorial Day weekend is a quiet time in NYC.
