(although this may be a mistake), I will try to give some info. If you are trying to avoid families with school-age kids that is difficult. In much of the northeast, kids get 2 vacations - one in Feb (Presidents Day wk) and one in April. Much of the rest of the country, schools are off for a week in March. Any cost is not an issue for lots of families, nor is the appropriateness of destination for kids.
Colleges generally have a spring break week during the 1st 3 weeks in March - it might be a little later for some this year as Easter is the end of March. In general, the more expensive the destination, the less likely you will see packs of college students. Even Panama City, FL - a notorious spring break destination - has one end of the beach that gets over-run with drunk college students and another that is quieter.
I used to go to south FL every year mid-late Feb and while compared to Boston, it was very warm - I now wait to go until at least a month later, since too often I found temps in the 60s and a lot of wind. I realize your circumstances place the week choice out of your control (but wondering how you know a funeral will take place weeks in advance)
If it were me, I would look in Sanibel area - I have never heard that being popular with college students (as parent of 25 year old who enlightened me with her various spring break options while in college)
