FIRST TIME TRAVELERS TO ANCHORAGE
This is my first trip to Alaska. I'm travelling alone to Anchorage. Would someone recommend some 4 or 5 star hotel located in the downetown area or a location that I would get a great view of the mountains and lake. What is the weather like there. I shall be travelling doing to week of August 5th. Thank you

The best hotels offering views of the mountains or Cook Inlet would be the Sheraton or Captain Cook. Both are 4-star type properties depending on how you count. The Hilton also offers good views but it's not the same quality place IMO, although well located.
The weather should be fine.

Just left on the 25th of July and most days we wore shorts. Some days and most evenings and mornings sleeves and pants felt good.
We only needed a light jacket--waterproof and hooded would be good for the rain showers.
The one thing I really wished I had taken was eye covers to sleep in. I never saw dark in 10 days and it made it hard for me to sleep. Even hotel drapes couldn't keep it out.
Hope you go on down to the Kenai Peninsula. It's the most scenic area around Anchorage. Seward and Homer are both nice small towns to visit. Take a day cruise out of Seward to see marine wildlife and glaciers.
