First time to San Antonio
Planning a week in San Antonio this spring, any thoughts about what we should see (we are especially intested in historic sites), where we should eat, what to miss? Any feedback would be very much appreciated! Thanks "y'all"!

If you like history, you'll love San Antonio!! My husband is a history buff, and it's one of our favorite places to visit.
Definitely set aside a day for the Mission Trail. There are 5 historc missions around San Antonio (San Jose, San Juan, Concepcion, Espada, and the Alamo) that are all part of the Trail. Each one has a visitor's center with historic information. The main visitor's center is at San Jose- very nice! These are now US National Park sites, as well as still being working church parishes. Bring some water- you'll need it!- and wear comfortable shoes. You must have a car to do this- the walk from a downtown hotel would be impossible!
Another historic site that you might want to to visit is the LBJ Ranch in Johnson City. It's about an hour from San Antonio out in the Hill Country. This was President Johnson's ranch and the "Texas White House" and Lady Bird now has a wonderful wildflower research center there. It will be just lovely in April!
If you still want even more history, trek over to Fredricksburg, and see the Nimitz museum. This was the birthplace of Admiral Nimitz, and the museum is really good.
As for places to eat in San Antonio- one of our favorites is the County Line BBQ. We also like Rio Rio on the Riverwalk, and Mi Tierra in El Mercado.
Have a lovely trip!!

The #1 place to eat is the Alamo Cafe. It is located on highway 410 (west or North). The resturants on the Riverwalk during tourist season, well, IMO, are iffy. But if you can see what people are eating and it looks good, go for it.
The Witte Museum is great if you have kids. I've taken Cub Scouts there.
El Mercado is fun. Be sure to go by a tourism bureau to get pamplets and directions. I don't know street names, I just know how to get there. I live an hour outside of SA.
Have fun!

Depending on when in the spring (late March, early April), take the trip to Fredericksburg & go on the Willow City Loop for a spectacular view of wildflowers. Just driving on the highway is beautiful then with seas of bluebonnets, etc. LBJ's boyhood home in Johnson City and Texas White House on Texas 1 off the highway between Johnson City and Fredericksburg makes a nice day outing.
In SA, Mission San Jose has a mariachi mass at noon on Sundays. Of course, the Alamo, circus museum, Witte Museum, Institute of Texan Cultures on the old HemisFair grounds. If you are going the week of April 21st, you will be exposed to Fiesta week. Three parades (river parade on Monday, Friday day, Saturday night), Night in Old San Antonio in La Villeta, etc.
Take the riverboat ride, listen to jazz at The Landing, eat at Mi Tierra in El Mercado (SA institution for locals & tourists), Italian at Paesano's, good but touristy at La Margarita in El Mercado.
