First Time on Oahu
My husband and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary in Hawaii (not sure why we are taking 2 teenage girls though) and want some tips for first timers. Reasonably priced restaurants and things that are a must to see and do.
Thanks,
PJ

1. Hanauma Bay
2. Hanauma Bay (worth going twice ha!)
3. USS Arizona Memorial
4. Hike up Diamond Head Crator (much better and cooler than it sounds)
5. Waikiki (you have to say you went)
6. Go to N. Shore (probably should be number 5)
7. Hawaiian/Polynesian Visitor Center

I agree with "e"...spend a couple days on Oahu to see what you must but then take a trip to the other islands. I would recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center and also a trip to Pearl Harbor. If you want to get a little "down home" flavor of the island, drive up through the middle (through Pearl City and north) and go through the pineapple and cane fields. Be sure to stop at a roadside pineapple stand and get FRESH pineapple. It's the best!

Have a cocktail at the Halekulani--the epitome of understated island elegance;Hawaiian music also.
Try Sam Choy's Breakfast Lunch and Crab for a casual meal. Portions are huge; sit at the counter and watch the action.
Chai's Island Bistro in the Ala Moana Shopping center is just lovely for lunch or dinner. There is music on some evenings. Dinner entrees are from about $17-$30 if I remeber correctly.
Cafe Miro-charming French spot, reasonable, popular with the locals.
Cafe Montserrat-has a Spanish flair.Popular, reasonable , open for lunch also
I haven't tried it, but Alan Wong has a new spot in the Ala Moana (I think) shopping mall called The Pineapple Room. It's open for lunch and dinner and is described as being more reasonable than his eponymous restaurant, which is very good, also.
Go swimming at Kailua Beach(about a 15 minute drive from Waikiki). Beautiful, not crowded, easy swimming.
Also, the Royal Hawaiian Musuem has a good collection of Asian art and a garden lunch spot.
Enjoy your trip.
