First Time in Las Vegas
We are travelling for our first time to Las Vega.....we are flying and not renting a vehicle. Would like to stay somewhere central, easy to get around. Would you recommend Fremont St...vs...The Strip? Also any recommendations for a memorable vacation?

Wynn Las Vegas if you sign up for their e-mail specials are offering $109 midweek and $159 weekend for a luxurious 5* hotel with some of the best food and design.
Rooms are plush with the high end memory foam beds, 800 count Egyptian cotton linens, 8 luxe pillows per bed.
It's up the strip more but cabs, are cheap or walk.
Fremont street is ok but thats where you go to win money and the strip is where to stay.
I have stayed at the Golden Nugget and that is pretty good.
I am not a fan of NY NY, Treasure Island, Luxor.
Enjoy Bellagio, Paris, MGM at the Mansion, Caesars and the Palms which is right off the strip and great rooms and a good place to win $$$.
Great 4-5* deals in Vegas and you can get a lot of bang for the buck with high end restaurants and rooms for next to nothing.

You'll want to stay on the strip...look at a map of the strip and you'll see that the "mid-strip" is usually the area around Caeser's and the Bellagio, Bally's, Flamingo, Mirage etc...
You can take the Deuce (The #2 City Bus) for 5$ a day and ride up to Freemont Street.
What are you looking for in your vacation to make it "memorable"? Do you like gambling, hitting clubs, nature, golf, pool scene????

Thank you for your replies. It's helpful getting information from people who have already been there.
We are more interested on this trip to play the slots and eat out, just taking in the sites this trip.

wife and I love to stay in a 5* at the Wynn for around $100 and eat and drink and some great places for pretty reasonable..love playing the slots and getting free drinks with the top shelf stuff and we like to see if we can do it for under $400 for 3 days for hotel/food/drink and gambling $$..we always come in way under and we dined and stayed at hotels that would cost that for one night!
Daniel Bouluds/DB brasserie is outstanding and they have a 3-4 course for under $40.
He is the famous chef of Paris/NYC/Vegas..lots of great places to eat.
Bouchon which is a Thomas Keller like in the French Laundry fame in Napa has one of the best breakfast at the Venetian.

1st time, please stay on the strip! Since you will not have a car, good hotels and good locations are the Venetian/Palazzo or Bellagio, and if these are too expensive, perhaps the Mirage or Paris...

A few years back I stayed at Bally's and thought the location was great and it had indoor access to the Paris hotel and their brunch. Yum. Bally's site has rooms for $55 with $20 food credit each night.

Definitely stay on or near the strip. It's where the action is. You can always go downtown to hangout, but the strip is much more fun. If you go to the Paris website you can get prices for rooms there and at a bunch of other hotels owned by the same company for your dates. I think you can do the same for other groups of hotels, I'm just not sure which other ones share ownership.

In mid-December, we stayed at Bally's for $44 per night, and got a coupon book with many two-for-one dinners. I found that price on wwwi4vegas.com. We though Bally's was the perfect location, our room was large and nice, the bathroom very attractive.
We rented a car--and it was less than $20 per day, inclusive of taxes and fees. That saved us taxi fare to/from the airport, and gave us the freedom to go to Hoover Dam, Springs Preserve, the Atomic Testing Museum, and Red Rock Canyon--all of which we really enjoyed.
It also gave us the chance to leave the Strip for dinners, as we thought many of the restaurants there were overpriced. Using a restaurant.com coupon made the Border Grill (at Mandalay Bay) reasonable, and the food was excellent.
Off Strip, we really liked Yama Sushi. We didn't get it, but their all you can eat special is $22.95.

I am planning on using a restaurant.com certificate for Fleur de Lys at the Mandalay Bay this weekend...I paid about $5 for a $50 certificate. Can't wait!
Also, check out many of the prix fixe specials at the restaurants. There should be some good deals out there for nice places.
