First San Francisco Bay Area Fodorite Gathering
Not to be left in the dust by Fodor Fans in other parts of the US, a
small group of us have been planning an evening event for Fodorites in the San Francisco Bay Area. The date, Thursday July 26, is firm because Kavey will be visiting SF from London and we definitely want to include her. So mark your calendar: THURSDAY, JULY 26th!
We're in the process of determining a location for dinner on the 26th. We want to keep it inexpensive, yet good, simple and interesting. Some restaurants we are considering are listed below.
We're still in the formative stages of planning this gathering and hope you will offer suggestions, too. Better yet, we hope you'll come so we can swap past travel tales and compare future travel plans.
Sharon, Kavey and Betsy
Restaurant recommendations:
Centrally located:
------------------
GREAT EASTERN (Chinese)
649 Jackson St. (between Grant and Kearny)
San Francisco
(415) 986-2500
Near Fisherman's Wharf:
-----------------------
MALEE (Thai and Vietnamese)
1450 Lombard Street (at Gough)
San Francisco
415-345-9001
Russian Hill and Polk Street:
-----------------------------
MARIOS BOHEMIAN CIGAR STORE CAFE

Yes, please come... I am really excited about meeting other Fodorites, people from all around the world who share the passion for travelling, (and when they cant be travelling the passion for planning travel and talking travel!).
If you live in the area or can easily visit we would love to see you...

Crapitola!
Finally a Left Coast/No. Cal gathering and we can't make it! (=^(
Thursdays are tuff for Sacto area Fod-Fans even with this much notice.
Maybe next time? Or London in Sept. 2002 when we hook up with our Chesterfield, UK friends we met in Kauai a few times?
Good luck to all and to our esteemed UK visitor, Kavey. Have fun!!!

Kal, I am really sorry you wont be able to make it but as I live in London, give me a yell when you have firm London plans and I would love to try and meet up with you when you come over...
And this gathering, I am sure, will be the first of many more...
(Although I cant imagine I will be able to come to the following ones for a while!)

I am a true Fodors fan. Tell me what happens at a Fodors event? I live near San Francisco (Sonoma) and might be interested in coming. Do you live in the bay area? Would you like some in put on restaurants? Or suggestions on things to do in the bay area that are off the beaten track?
I look forward to hearing more...

Hi Diane
I can't tell you exactly what happens at a Fodor's gathering because I've never been to one! Other areas of the country have held gatherings and report them to be great fun. Two of the "organizers" live in the Bay Area and one, who will be visiting SF on July 29, lives in London. I envision a gathering of fairly like-minded people from the Bay Area who share the common bond of loving this site and the information provided by the helpful, experienced fellow travelers who post here. Since we are a lively bunch on the board, I expect the evening will be lively too. As soon as we know about how many people are coming, we will choose a centrally located SF restaurant. Please feel free to add your recommendations.

There's a very active group of Fodorties in the DC/MD/VA area ... frequent lunches. One of the planners even posts pictures on her website of their get togethers. I have heard rumors there may be such an event in the Tampa area, hosted by one of the best posters at this site. But will leave it to that person to make any future announcement. Ciao

Hi!
As an official Tucson fodorite, I will be moving to San Francisco in early July...so imagine my excitement at what great timing of your planned dinner! Not only a chance to meet some fellow Fodorites, but to meet some new people in what will be a very new city for me! Count me in! I'll be reading the board to learn more details.
